Did he manage Mcgeady?
Just read a thing about him and he was apparently disappointed that McGeady had left just before he took over. Losing good players seemed to be a recurring theme.

Still fuming at those behind the scenes and the whole process, but happy to give Neil a chance. One thing, he's had three clubs and all of their fans seem to speak positively about him. Doubt that's the case for many managers.

Mind if he fails then speakman 100% has to go. He should be under massive pressure already, but if this appointment doesn't work out he's really got nowhere to hide. Hope Neil gets good support from the crowd though, he sounds a decent manager and this shit hasn't been his fault. In a way he's fortunate, very few expect us to go up now, so even though he's not a popular choice, he'll have most on side if he gets the job done

It’s irrelevant coz it doesn’t suit your weak argument.

What about the season after when Hamilton were 3rd in the SPL after Xmas, level on points with Celtic?
What about it?

It’s funny how until today he had maybe one or two poster saying he would be good, now there are quite a few. Some will put up with anything the club gives them.

The only thing I'm really worried about is in one of his interviews, he said he likes a work ethic in his team and that a lot of the players he had at PNE were lower league players with hunger to work harder than the other team.

If he can instil that in this bunch of players then that could be absolutely fantastic for us, but there are a lot of players who have joined us from PL academies who it seems don't have that fire in the belly that he wants from his players. Plus I don't know if there is an ego issue in our squad or not and how he might well cope with them egos.

The only thing I'm disgruntled with is how long its taken. Nearly two weeks ffs. 3, almost (could be) 4 games.

Who else would you suggest we got in?
If Neil had been appointed the day after Johnson was sacked the atmosphere around the club would have been acceptable.

The onwership and leadership have created a toxic atmosphere with the way they have behaved over the past couple of weeks.

Speakman needs to go tonight and if KLD cant or wont invest he needs to put the club up for sale. If not we will become a Portsmouth or worse.

Im sick of hearing 'sustainability'. The club has infastructure that cant be sustained in Div 3. We either have owners who can invest to get out of this horrible league or they need to sell up, The club is dieing by a thousand cuts.

It’s not a cop out at all.

It seems we have a certain ‘model’ that we are looking for, which so far hasnt worked and therefore it narrows the choice of managers down quite significantly.

If we are following the model under Speakman whereby we appoint a head coach who isn’t in charge of transfers and looks to play this ‘aggressive, high pressing’ game that he keeps waffling about then i would have preferred Jokanovic, Ismael or Bilic. Bilic probably being unrealistic in our current position. Farke would have also been a candidate but recently got a job in Russia.

If we are going for someone pragmatic to get out of this league now, I think Warnock would have done that this season two weeks ago if appointed. I also think Hughton would have got us organised and solid.

If we are talking more ‘Wild Cards’ I would have gone for John Terry. Sunderland seem to be best when they have a leader to drive the club from the top. We’ve lacked this for years and no manager since Allardyce has been successful.

Fully expect you to pick this apart, but they would have been my choices that initially spring to mind.

I think Hughton would have been decent though Warnock is a miss for me and I’d say that Bilic wouldn’t be the only unrealistic one amongst them. I’m pretty confident that none of those expressed an interest, I don’t know that’s the case obviously. As far as Terry is concerned I wouldn’t want him anywhere near SAFC.

They would have known his demands from the start though. If they were not acceptable then you move on. It would appear we’ve tried to negotiate for well over a week, in the hope things change.

How about Keane has been indecisive on his side keeping his options open for as long as poss?
We don’t know but for him to get an offer means we have at least tried to flush out his intentions.

As many as I like thanks!! It’s true we need someone with fire in their belly!!
Kevin Ball?
I will rephrase for Mr Pedantic. A very select few wanted Alex Neil to get the job, The significant majority didn’t want him until he was confirmed to be in final discussions today.
Slightly better than “literally nobody” - a factually incorrect statement. You do know what ‘literally‘ means?

In fact there were quite a few. I’ve been an advocate of getting Neil for a while, so when others mentioned his name I took notice, hence why I know there’s been quite a few. Just because you’re not keen doesn’t mean others aren’t.

The end if the day we all want the same thing as Sunderland fans and that is to get out if this league we've been in it 4 seasons too long.

We all have different opinions on who should be manager and that's fine. If Neil gets off to a good start the stadium will be right behind him. Hopefully this appointment will be the last one for a long time meaning we are doing well
