No idea but I stand by my comment. He is not a captain IMHO. I dont think that he has the personality for it.[DOUBLEPOST=1386802379][/DOUBLEPOST]To be replaced by?![]()
Nee idea. Its not my job to pick the England captain. And replaced with whom?

Sums the situation up IMHO.He's the best man for the job for a while yet mate. Next captain will be Root but that's a long while off.

Aye, the medium to long term prospects for English cricket are not great. Could be a long downward slope from here.Sums the situation up IMHO.
The whole thing now looks to be in transition. Just heard a few sports people talking about this very subject on Sky TV.
True but the fact remains there are no outstanding candidates for the job.
Only realistic candidate is Prior, but he's in worse form with the bat. We could call up Colly but that would be a short term fix and we'd still have to find a long term captain from somewhere.
Your point please?Alastair Cook![]()
The best setups recognise when its turning to rat shit and seamlessly get rid of the old guard and bring in the new lads. Unfortunately so many of our players have been untouchable for so long its going to be a painful process most likely. Remarkable how we've gone from hero to zero but lets face it if everyone read the tea leaves properly we saw that we never got out of second gear in the summer. We were poor but people mostly just put it down to not having to try very much to beat a very mediocre Aussie team. Seems as though that was incorrect perhaps.Aye, the medium to long term prospects for English cricket are not great. Could be a long downward slope from here.

Not sure how old you are Fish so you may not remember this but Boycott refused to go because he was refused the captaincy iirc. Hardly "bottled it." Replaced by a near 40 year old in Luckhurst.
That was also the series that Thommo really showed what he was about. If Mike Denness had got his way, Boycott and John Snow would have gone on tour and that series (1-4) could have been very different.
48 today m8.
I know about the captaincy lark et al. Boycott was a bit mardy like.
massive overreactions here like
too many of our players out of form at the same time, but all of a sudden were in dire straits, anyone over 30 needs axing, cook needs dropping and were in transition?
i do agree however i dont think cook is made for captaincy but carrying a captain is a big strain on the team and generally, when everyone is in reasonable form, 11 good players with an average captain works better than 10 good players and a good captain.
a very poor tour so far yes, hardly the end of an era though.
With a few exceptions athletes tend to be the first to critise their failings and are openly critical of themselves in anything but peak form. To essentially say to an athlete "well done on all your past successes" is a huge insult. Cook would be the first person to admit he's been poor I reckon. It's not a nice or supportive thing to do, but sport at this level is about winning above all else.Second sentence was me being a facitous over the 'signs were there' comment, but the rest are all on this forum. Not all from you like.
I don't know what it is about this country. We have world class talent in Cook, someone who is in the process of breaking all the records there is for his discipline, but as soon as he drops his level even slightly the knives come out. Mental really.

If players are 'out of form' what the fuck are they doing on the tour?
You're wrong anyway IMHO, this boils down to psychology and coaching. Batsmen are questioning their ability, resulting in poor decision making.
