Comparing apples and oranges here like. Sunday afternoon at Hetton watching the ladies is a really enjoyable couple of hours, if you’ve not been then give it a go. Don’t understand the need to compare the two.
The attitude towards women’s football on here is so depressing. So many (I assume) men falling over themselves to tell you how much they don’t care about it and how terrible it.

You should care about it because it’s a big f***ing deal that women are allowed to play football and have professional teams. It was banned in this country from 1921-1970, in fact go and look at this list of countries it has been banned from - - then come back here and tell me why we shouldn’t be celebrating it and shouting about it from the rooftops.

Woke apparently

But no. Great post.

The background and info there is good and it's of course great in modern day that so many are playing now.
However what's that got to with the exact context of the conversation this morning, and the OPs original post?

So basically it hasn't been banned for the past 55 years, basically most of my life. It's very old news that it was banned.

I should care why exactly? I find it uninteresting. I find it's over promotion on sites like the BBC tiresome. I'm allowed an opinion.

I might like tiddlywinks, why would I be bothered if you cared or not?

You shout what you like. I'll listen and watch what I like.

It’s sh!te. Have you ever seen a game? The goalkeepers can’t even reach the crossbar and it’s like watching an U15s match.

Just needs to be called out for what it is, maybe when it gets better people will watch it.
Do you harbour the same opinion of u21s football, or non-league?

Do you respond with the same unsolicited distain for other people choosing spend their time and money watching those? Or is it only the women’s football you need to tell everyone is “sh!ite” when they hadn’t asked?

Well some of them clearly aren't

And some of them clearly are

And who really gives a fuck what he thinks 🤔

Of course some will be interested
But the facts tell us that vast majority of Man Utd fans have no interest in their women’s team.

Here are facts
Man Utd women team currently average 5,537 charging £12 a ticket with no season ticket waiting list.
Man Utd men’s team currently average 73,590 charging £66 a ticket and have a season ticket waiting list of 30,000.

That was Brazil’s point….he wasn’t stating an opinion he was stating fact. How can anyone be offended regards facts.
Although agree he does often come across as having old fashioned values….but he is old and set in his ways.

He’s a radio presenter, so he’s paid to gives opinions and tell us what he thinks.

Ah, Wikipedia. If you want to celebrate women's football, shout it from the rooftops and support it financially, good for for you. Personally I'm not interested in it, don't want to watch it and dislike the prominence it's given for no apparent reason ... other than being women's football. That's fine, but let's not compare it to the men's version which is a different game. Those running men's clubs from grassroots level upwards have worked hard for many decades to finance and create interest, and still do today. Those involved with women's football will have to do the same and good luck to them, but it will take time and if people are not interested, why should they be criticised and somehow be made to feel guilty which is often how it feels.

Wow…I find your attitude depressing…assume it’s well intentioned but so narrow minded.

How would you feel if girls or women didn’t want to play football? In your world they’d be forced to play with no freedom of choice.
If people (mainly women) don’t enjoy women’s football…..do you think it should be compulsory and they should be forced to enjoy it.

The market is showing there’s some interest in the women’s game but even with massive marketing and promotion it’s still quite small.
Surely people who are interested should be allowed to attend matches and the market usually decides the admission prices.
A few year back many of the tickets were free but now the women’s game is able to charge £10 and have decent gates, it’s progress and should be seen as a positive.

The big mistake is that the media often try to compare the women’s and men’s games where they are worlds apart off the pitch and almost like different sports on the pitch, so it’s obvious and natural that some football lovers won’t enjoy it.

Some people obviously do enjoy women’s football and some don’t. Neither opinion is wrong or should be thought of as depressing.
Many just enjoy the international competitions….live and let live….surely you agree there should be freedom of choice
And there should be nothing wrong in saying you don’t like women’s football….as long as it’s respectful.

To be honest Splasher these types of subjects are so difficult to discuss in writing in a forum because there’s no context and people communicate differently.

You’ve seen negative comments about women’s football and rightfully you would feel depressed if you’ve interpreted this as negativity towards women.
In some cases this will be the case but they’ll also be people who are very much pro women’s rights but just don't enjoy women’s football.

I like women’s football the same as I like watching under 16’s school boy football, basically I’ll watch it if there’s nothing else to do but I’m not that bothered really.
Conversely I can enjoy watching the women’s internationals more because there’s no jeopardy whereas I’m overly nervous and connected when the men’s team play.
However I do enjoy watching women’s boxing and MMA fights. So it’s not an anti woman’s sport thing.

That wiki page has to be a windup! “dick kerr” 😂

I think if you feel guilty ,it's a reflection on your own attitudes

It appears misogynists think if they don't care (but care enough to bang on about how much they don't care!), that must mean that no-one does.

You don't have to be a misogynist to not care about women's football.

No doubt there'll be misogynists with that viewpoint, but it's not a prerequisite.

It wasn’t unsolicited, you asked whether it was down to lack of exposure, and I corrected you. There’s already far more exposure to it than the championship, let alone non-league and U21s and the take-up is poor. Ever noticed when you click through on a sky or BBC sports website the order of play goes EPL, WSL, Championship…

I have no disdain for anyone who chooses to watch it - but the reason the take-up isn’t higher is because they plug it as much as they can and the standard is woeful.

Also just FYI, the goalkeepers can all reach the bar in U21s and non-league…

Yeah, the moral police are really out in full force and looking for a witch hunt. If only there were fewer misogynists out there, the viewing figures between the two forms of the game would be exactly the same!

I don’t disagree with his view, but he was pretty belligerent in his delivery, and he didn’t need to be so dismissive towards a female journalist and colleague in such a public forum. She was only doing her job (and doing it well) and must have found it pretty humiliating to be interrupted like that.

The take up isn't higher because they plug it to death? Wtf

It proves that mist don't watch the womens game.

But that's obvious looking at the attendances. You don't need Einstein levels of intellect to make that observation.

But does this mean it ( women's footy ) shouldn't be encouraged... No

The real question is why he chose to labour the point so much
Did he say women shouldn’t be encouraged to play??

He ‘laboured’ the point as that gobshite shebane wouldn’t accept in the grand scheme of things the woman’s team are an irrelevance.

If she’d just said yeah obviously mens team the priority but if the women can do well that’ll be a bonus the convo would’ve stopped dead!
I have never and would never compare men’s and women’s football in that way. It’s utterly ridiculous. You’ve got to be pretty thick to make that comparison to be fair.
So you concede the product is vastly inferior then?
