I'm very sceptical of a player who basically did nothing of note until he was 27. He was playing for England at all age levels until under 21's but he had no actual pedigree playing men's football until after his mid 20's.

It's a very odd scenario. Maybe he's found himself, maybe he'll revert to a 5 goal a season man again. Who knows?

Some players are very late developers though, didn’t Arsenal basically persist with him before severing ties?

Jamie Vardy didn't play in the prem until his 30's I don't think...

He played 4 games for them when the was 17/18 and scored no goals. They then kept him on for another 5 years and he never played a single game!

He did nothing of note on several loans over those 5 years.

Didier Drogba was one who didn't start showing potential till he was about that age, Luis Boa Morte was another . Loads of late developers in the game same as their is in life .

He played for Fleetwood the season they got promoted to the league when he was 24.

He got a move to Leicester, played 2 seasons in the Championship and then played in the Premier League when the was 27.

It's a completely different scenario. Vardy played non league after being released by Sheffield Wednesday as a kid.

Akpom was at Arsenal until he was 23 and played for England at youth level for 5 years. He was obviously rated but just didn't deliver.

So Vardy didn't play in the prem until 27 then, different scenario but both late bloomers.

Not sure why the context of why they were't in the prem matters, Akpom has been great since that season a tBoro and hasn't dropped off really in Holland

I wouldn't know. I haven't seen him play for Ajax.

He has 3 goals in 16 games this season which is nothing to get excited about.
