"Chuba Akpom, eligible to play for Nigeria's Super Eagles, is on the brink of returning to the English Championship, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The forward, who made a move from Middlesbrough to Ajax Amsterdam a few seasons ago following a standout campaign at Riverside, has struggled to secure a consistent place in Ajax's first team since arriving at the Amsterdam Arena.

However, Sunderland has made significant progress in negotiations with Ajax and is nearing an agreement to bring Akpom to the Stadium of Light. The deal is expected to be finalized soon."

Always had the impression he was like a fancier/better version of Charlie Wyke, scores plenty goals but not an outstanding player.

Like Wyke scored like 30 odd goals for us or something mad, but we improved the team when he left and we played LND who scored fewer goals.

I could be talking bollocks without watching him too closely but that was always my take on the lad. If he comes I hope he rakes them in for us.
