Ahmed Abdullahi

The scout watching Gray told Mick that he was nowhere near good enough and he still insisted we went for it. Blackburn had realised they’d signed a dud with Stead and were touting him out to champ clubs willing to pay 50% of wages. They were stunned when another pl club actually wanted to buy him and amazingly we still managed to sell him. I think only Warnock and McCarthy were old school enough to rate him
Then Stead looked like Pele when he played against us and scored for Bradford in the FA Cup.

Wasn't there something weird with the keepers too where we had 3 decent ones (Sorensen, Myhre, Macho maybe?) and then spunked our entire winter budget on Poom?

Makes you laugh when we had Steele, the dutch lad, and then bought Camp...or cry
All injured so we signed an injured Poom too!

Sorensen got injured and was out about three months, eventually coming back a bit early. Myhre played one game or something- was it Bolton and got injured for a decent period. Macho started poorly and had played poorly the previous season when called upon.

It was all a bit mental like as Poom came in supposedly on loan, but in reality we made it permanent almost straight away. So as to not smash Macho's recently found confidence (who iirc was also possibly carrying and injury) he didn't play Poom from the off. Macho had a couple of worldies, though his handling was still average and kept in playing and then they brought Sorensen back in - probably too early who was rusty as owt and seemed to lack decisiveness after his injury (cheekbone or nose or shoulder- can't remember).

I don't think Poom, who I really liked, actually got a game till later in the season.

Pay poom or mhyre 1.5million over 2 seasons or spunk the same on kelvin Davis.

Poom was fit again in November- he wasn't even out of contract. He went to Arsenal in the deal that brought Hoyte here on loan ffs 😀

Myhre was out-of contract. There was a suggestion that Bob Murray had been pissed off with him back in the PL either when we'd signed him or played him and he'd declared himself fit when he wasn't and that he wanted him gone. True or not it was shooting yourself in the foot as those two were the best two keepers in the championship and we bought Davis who got in the team of the season for Ipswich who had conceded loads, but he was already known for being slightly error prone and that's why he was let go by Wimbledon.

Maybe I will be but I can’t see it now. He will get very few chances to show what he can do. He’s behind 2 now and come the window shutting maybe even 4.
What do you base this on as the lad has never been seen at first team level ?

Mayenda was crocked and mediocre on arrival
