He's not dropped in for a full game since the Portsmouth away game. He's moved deeper over the course of the season but generally alongside Dan Neil who has been the deepest, until Saturday and we reverted to the formation we were playing earlier in the season.

It's a stretch to say its his best position as he's not really played it.

He's been decent at winning the ball when dropping deep and playing it simply and also carrying the ball up the pitch from a midway position and recieving the ball on the half turn whilst protecting it - something he struggled to do last season. But he's rarely ever been the deepest midfielder tracking runs, being the main outlet moving the ball around etc.

Given his size and mobility, he's made for the box-to-box (No.8) role. His ability to win/keep the ball in tight positions, then to get us up the pitch is not to be discounted.

Yes agreed but he has dropped in at times and given Neil licence to get forward more which has coincided with an upturn in Neil’s performances. I accept it is up for debate which is his best role, but I’ve seen enough to suggest he’s more suited to the deepest role. Perhaps not just yet as I think he still needs to add more consistency to his game, but his physique and as you say his improvement on receiving and protecting the ball make him an ideal candidate for it in my opinion.

I wouldn’t disagree with that at all, but I don’t think he’s consistent enough to play it yet, nor do I think for the level he’s headed and the teams he may end up playing for, will he necessarily be the best option there, if that makes sense. I already think we’ve two better options for an 8 and a 10 here, in Le Fee and Rigg. In fact that would be close to my first choice midfield, with Jobe the deepest. But then that would mean Neil missing out, which I don’t really want either. And that’s before even getting to the fact I think we’re far better suited by setting set up with two in the middle and two up front in a 442, which then becomes even more of a problem in who to leave out.

I do think at the moment he's an 8, he has the movement around the box to be a 10 but maybe not the cleverness with distribution or the change of pace (unless there's Bale like splurt of pace and power around 20). So it may well be that he ends up deeper as he ages.
 
if mundle and watson return soon it will be no great loss. He has been unlucky to be out the side of late though

He’s a very very good player and only 19.

I just think in time his talents will end up being better suited deeper.

Agree with this. He lacks end product and he’s frustrating at times but he’s not the only one, and he’s got ability and valuable qualities that we’re lacking at the moment and could be making more of.

Should have been used more than he has really as he’s done pretty well since coming back in the side.

If Pompey are paying a decent fee then no chance the club would refuse. Might then be up to the player himself. Pompey are in a relegation fight so its up to whether Aouchiche fancies that. He would get first team football so could be a good move. Still think the European leagues might be kinder to him as he is good technically but perhaps lightweight?
 
I think he’s got a part to play but it seems that RLB doesn’t fancy him. I’ll give him massive credit for being on the sidelines for so long and then coming in and doing a decent job. A refreshingly professional attitude compared to some of the sh*t that we’ve had on our books in recent memory.
