Must admit I find a lot of the posts on this thread baffling, do people not think we are in a big enough hole without digging more by welcoming this absolute knacker back to the club
There’s no way in the world I toot be happy to have him back like.
However if any club signs him they are fully entitled to and I won’t question it (except us)

So now your restricting his options in life. If the employer wants to employ them, and both the courts and the employer are happy, then I done see any issue.
He’s already served his time. When does the punishment end?
Would he be allowed to coach kids? His options in life will be restricted.

He can do plenty of other work rather than be a footballer or work in football.

As long as the crime didn’t conflict with the trade. However I can’t see a school wanting to take on a convicted sex offender, if they did then in my eyes it wouldn’t be the sex offender at fault

Johnson's crime fully conflicted with his trade. He abused his position as a professional footballer, an adult professional footballer, to groom an underage girl who supports the club he played for. He met her through his work. He knew what he was doing, he knew her age, he checked for age of consent online, he proceeded with his grooming nevertheless.

It is 100% in conflict with the trade. He should never play football again. The job role comes with other responsibilities than just performing on a field every week. He failed at those responsibilities and demonstrated he can't be trusted with them.

So when he has served his time, he shouldn't be allowed to play football again. Like any tradesman who have served a sentence, surely they should be allowed to go back to their trade.

There are many professions you would be barred from practicing if you were convicted of any serious crime, let alone a sexual offence.

Like I say, if a company are stupid enough to offer him a job like that then in my eyes he isn’t the one making the mistake. The company should be held accountable

Edinburgh City have a player called Craig Thomson playing for them, used to play for Hearts and a convicted sex offender.

With all due respect Johnson would never be the player he was, pointless debating whether he'd make a difference to our team our not.

A) what he did to the young lass was horrific

B) he abused his position of trust and clearly knew he was doing wrong as he was telling her to delete the messages to cover his back

C) he lied to the club, fans, his missus and everyone else and pleaded his innocence right up until his trial when the sordid details came out in court

D) He hasn't shown a single scrap of remorse

E) He still appears to be acting Billy Bigballs inside although I appreciate that might just be paper talk

F) The job entails contact with children when signing autographs, visiting hosptials, schools, clubs etc. There would be a safeguarding issues there.
Everything you say is true. That is why he was sent to prison.

But he has served his time. For the sake of humanity we should let him get on with his life.
