4th May - the club were shown 800+ whatsapp messages between Johnson and the girl. Clear evidence of Johnson's grooming campaign. The club have claimed these messages were passed onto Johnson's legal team immediately and they didn't bother looking at them (and evidently Johnson's legal team looked at them, didn't say a word and filed them away without the club enquiring as to what his legal team had just seen). Total and utter horseplop I'm afraid.
No it's not, I'm not talking 4th May, the BBC reporter is referring to a meeting between the Durham Police and Byrne in March and saying they had a "detailed meeting" leaving people to interpret that as a discussion around evidence. It was made clear in court by the same police officer that they did not go into detail about the evidence against him, just the nature of the allegations and safeguarding measures that the club should take. He wasn't even charged until 23rd April so the suggestion that the police told the club he was guilty of these offences and provided then with evidence then took 7 weeks to charge him is ridiculous.
It may be true that the club received the details on 4th May, but a carefully constructed question by the defence barrister and unchallenged testimony from a known liar about the nature of that disclosure is a very different thing to the police saying they provided full details to the club as has been suggested in some places.
