This is what doesn't make any sense to me why would he sit there and tell the club yes I'm guilty I did this here is the evidence, but I'm pleading not guilty?
It's very strange. Surely, it could only have been about the money (from his perspective) and his value as a pro footballer (the club's perspective).
All parties will have known fine well his career as a professional footballer was over as soon as the guilty plea was entered - but he has in effect been able to take a further £2m - £3m 'retirement fund' during this period and contributed towards keeping the club in the PL.
His defence probably told him that even a late guilty plea on the two lesser charges would only give him a suspended sentence or short custodial...... Then he goes back to his mansion and millions of pounds in the bank.
Something just doesn't add up.
