Abdoullah Ba

I thought so. You need the data or people get defensive-agro and take suggestions like this as a personal attack. I think people ought to be aware that there's no shame in unconscious bias, it just -is- the case.

One of the main examples I remember from the full study is 'beast', which people will use (to some degree quite fairly) all the time about Brobbey. Think of five players you'd consider a 'beast' of a player.

Was
Haaland
one? Probably not, despite fitting 'the description'. Not for me at least, and it's likely because I have unconscious bias.
I just thought of our team. I've definitely been at the match and said that Brobbey is an absolute beast. Said the same about Mukiele. But I've 100% said it about Ballard too because he's so good in the air and so strong. Said it about Alderete as well. Cant remember if I've said it about Hume but it probably when he's done one of his trademark tackles that wipe out an opposition player

Yeah Ballard and Aldarete totally. Hume is just Huuuume
Not ultimately the point though, it's not really an anecdotal subject - I'd hope most on here would agree with the dude that brough this up; Mayenda & Brobbey clearly aren't lazy, but the data suggests there -could- be a reason those opinions are aired here.

Do you not think it’s more related to positions and the flair players of which a high percentage have been black lads get the lazy moniker.

I’d be interested to to know which black defenders who you have heard called lazy, from Nordi, to Monday, to Benno, I can’t recall any of them being called lazy.
Bramble used to get it mind.

Was it Frankie Francis after the second leg of the play off who called Ballard a beast on commentary

To be fair I do remember reading that study and it was pretty interesting. I think the most interesting bit was about players who people say are intelligent/ clever or whatever and it was predominantly white players when they looked at the messages etc. So I do think there's something there for a lot of people, in an unconscious way.

And I agree about the two you mentioned, don't think they're lazy but I have heard it, especially about Brobbey. Although with him I'm not sure it's anything to do with race and unconscious bias. I think because he's such a unit, he can't really run full pelt all the time. Almost like a heavyweight boxer he has to conserve his energy, and he's still often knackered by about 70 minutes. Some probably just don't understand that his physique likely prevents him from sprinting about all the time, so they might think he isn't closing down and is therefore lazy, when there's more to it than that imo. But aye, I do get your point and certainly that study made me think a lot about how people describe footballers, it's interesting and something to be aware of

Aye, Berbatov is possibly the best example of that and there won't be many paler than him on this board. Ultimately I think it leads to a nicer world if people can take a bit of a step back and be a bit more objective about this sort of thing, not take data as a personal attack and reason to insult anyone mentioning it.

I don't mind saying what a few have avoided saying, it is only ever black players on here that get labelled lazy, so one may deduce that it is a either sub-conscious bias thing, or just the person saying it is a racist kernt.
Mayenda, Brobbey and Isador have all been labelled lazy on this board this season
Where has this come from !? Ridiculous post.

Anyway, my team for West Ham tomorrow would be.

Strange we couldn't get a loan for him, can only think he doesn't want to go out on loan.
No international slots and presumably no decent domestic interest. Still possible he could go as a few windows close today or later in Feb but would need to be a permanent deal.

Club has treated him awfully. He's been been training very hard and just been generally great behind the scenes. But the club have it in for him. Wouldn't blame him at all if he fucks us off and goes somewhere where he's respected. We'll regret it a couple of years down the line.

Really can’t understand why the whereabouts of Ba and Poveda bothers people. Their contracts are between them and the club and nothing to do with us fans.
Because we want what is best for the club, and having these 2 clinging on is to the detriment of Sunderland.

We — and they — are better off parting ways, but doesn’t seem like it’ll happen until the summer now.

What happened for the club to be unhappy with him?

Fook off visitor.

Heard fake rumours he likes the weed...that's a very high Ba;)

Out of interest, if anyone knows. What actually happens to players like Ba? Obviously he's our player, but not involved with the first team or reserves. Do we juts pay him to sit in the house? Does he even train with any of our squads?
