5th test the oval

It's a pretty natural extension of a very basic tenet in sports or competitive games that you play in the moment ablnd don't think about the outcome. Not because you don't want to win, but because if you take each shot on its own merits each time that's the best way of winning.

The best batsmen always reduce an innings to just being about the ball they're facing and forget about the score, what's gone before, who's to come etc. Stokes has epitomised it in his legendary knocks.

Also Stokes has had serious MH issues and MH issues tore the previous successful England team to pieces so I think he's very focused on player safety and wellbeing.

The brand is have fun and enjoy the moment and you'll play your best cricket and be in your best condition to keep doing so. While you're winning it's hard to argue with that. If England start to lose more than they win though it will be shot to pieces. The main issue I think is that its seen as not very English, too confident and especially in cricket, not enough about respect and tradition.
Yeah spot on, it’s something different but crucially something better the English don’t like change!

You dead right if we start to lose consistently it will be questioned more and rightly soo.

But despite possibly losing to the best side in the world in a very close contest that could have gone either way.

We winning a hell of lot of games than we were before this set up took over.

People will do well to remember that

I cant get my head around why the pitches being prepared are flat as a fart. We've got one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket at present - prepare a pitch for him to show off his talents. instead we prepare slow pitches that offer nothing to our attack. Its baffling
Because our batting is wank in reality and if the ball moved this Aussie pace attack would knick us off for 100 frequently. Duckett, Crawley, Brook and Bairstow in particular would be walking wickets on a green top

I would think Woody must be injured. But we have hamstrung ourselves in every game by failing to pick the correct 11.

At times we have be so arrogant the way we batted late last night when it was obvious how flat the pitch was.

We have literally played with 10 last 2 tests with just how poor Anderson has been and 9 with Mo getting injured if Wood has gone again.

It’s once again shown when there is no sideways movement we struggle badly.

I was trying to throw it forward to the 2025 Ashes was totally scratching my head for a bowling like up.
Tongue, Robinson, Stone, Potts, Rehman, Anderson

Torrential rain in London most of the evening....could be a wet outfield delayed start

Not really sure we have learned anything about declarations and not sending out tail enders to bat from the last test

Isn’t that the point though most English batsman before McCullum took over were waking wickets also but crucially scored less runs meaning they lost more games!!

I will settle for the above players and better wickets because crucially with them we have won a lot more games

Nah. He was just bizarrely not used until the 33rd over whilst the ineffectual Anderson was persisted with. Test is more than likely gone now anyway.
I lost interest after it became quite clear we were not going to take a wicket. If it wasn't for the rain it would have been worse

Sorry my comment was in relation to another asking why we didn’t prepare green tops and why the pitches were so flat. I think the game plan is to bat big quick and give the bowlers 3 full days to take 20 wickets on a flat pitch as we’d get rolled on a green top

Give over. The problem with you and Essex boy is everything is to the extremes. Headingley was the liveliest wicket and we won there and OT probably second and we would have won there. The flattest wickets we lost on.

Stone is never fit. If that’s the attack in Australia we will get slaughtered again not even pace and no variation again.

Tongue is around 85-88mph. Robinson is good over here struggled badly down under.

Think Potts has been awesome for Durham but still not sold on him totally as a test bowler.

Hope some more young quicks come through but until we play with the horrible kookabura ball we will continue to produce medium pacers who struggle abroad with no lateral movement.

Be better cricket or the Dukes was used everywhere but can’t see that.

It's going to be tough to get all 10 wickets tomorrow on a pitch that is offering very little to the bowlers.

Someone has to stick their hand up and bowl a gem of an innings. Something I'd have hoped would have started today.

What I would give for a Swann type spinner..
