4th test Manchester

I know, whether we like it or not the England management have made a decision and are sticking with it, like they have with the rest of the team through thick and thin. They must believe it is the best / most balanced squad they can pick. I may be wrong but Foakes has never really nailed the keepers job for England, not only with this particular set up, why, what do they see the others don't?
They want a batsman keeper rather than keeper batsman.

The argument is that the current incumbent is failing as a keeper (and looks out of touch as a batsman). Not all that surprisingly given his injury

Englands fielding has been pretty abysmal all round, got to ask do they do any practice? I was surprised to see Root had dropped so many. Our poor fielding is costing us.

Foakes record with the bat isn't that far off JB's, Personally I'd probably bring Foakes in, move Root to #3 and JB #5.

At the end of this series someone needs to ensure Stokes has a proper rest, get his knee (and possibly hip) properly sorted out both for the teams sake and for his own welfare.

howd he get on in the last ashes at home? all good and well getting scores against lesser sides but needs to do it when it matters. 3 tests in. no significant score and lots of dropped catches.

however, to go with your theory, play him as a bat exclusively and give the gloves to foakes.
The lesser sides being the then World Test Champions and the then number one in the Test rankings. Hardly Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

All Black mentality: Once an All Black, always an All Black.

Once you're in, it's harder to get out of the squad. If we can replicate their success, then I'm on borard.
Tell that to Foakes
They might have if Stokes could bowl but he can’t so the balance of the side isn’t there and they need to pick the extra bowler
I think Stokes will bowl in 1 of the next 2 tests mind
I think Stokes will bowl in 1 of the next 2 tests mind, changes the team if he can cover 1 or 2 spells each innings.
Crawley
Duckett
Lawrence (not that i think he should play)
Root
Brook
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Woakes
Wood
Broad

As much as i want Jimmy in this team for OT, Broads been brilliant and got 9 days to rest before this

my point stands. hes done absolutely fuck all this ashes series and deserves to be dropped. he's getting found out by a team with more fight, desire and backbone than himself.

Doesn't play golf and isn't 'one of the lads'. I enjoy watching this team play but it really seems like a bit of a boys club.
Absolute bollocks, amazed people are small minded enough to think national teams on the biggest series of all are picked on any other basis than what they think is the best side.
Not true that though is it? He's going through a bit of a rough patch but he has 12 test 100s and averages 37.

The Tests against NZ he was brilliant and also scored 2 x 100's against India before this Ashes.
Short memories mate

Once again over reaction and short memories.

Firstly I think Foakes should keep and Bairstow seems not fully fit so perfectly fair argument for some to say that imo.

But some of the comments thrown at Bairstow disgraceful and embarrassing by some posters with short memories, he was sensational last year.

And just 3 games in apparently ‘ he has no backbone’ ‘ only in because plays golf’ and also ‘ a f***ing con’

Hway man make a point without insulting probably our best player last summer just 3 games into this one.

Last year is irrelevant, he’s broke his leg in 3 places and put on a significant amount of weight since then.

As a batsman, he deserves time, but picking him as a WK is lunacy. He was like a retired WK playing village cricket last test.

Agreed.

It's McCullum and Stokes fault picking him when he's not fit. Not all on him like.

He's performed horribly since the first innings at Edgbaston. At least the only was is up not sure he can get any worse.

Just as a matter of interest, how long does it have to be before historical performances are no longer relevant?

Not interested in the Bairstow bashing, agree with you on that point BTW.

Totally agree and that is why Foakes should keep which is what I have said

But after his performances last year and his heroics for posters to call him ‘ a f***ing con’
and ‘ no backbone’ is way way over the top.

And simply nonsense, not sure why people can’t say what you just said without the need for insults

More than 3 games mate, that’s how many he has played since last years heroics

More than three games? Hmm. It was last year mate, not a couple of weeks ago

Selectors got it wrong, as they do sometimes, really should have put it right this time round.

Yeah like I say mate can’t make myself more clear that I agree fully that Foakes should be playing and Bairstow this series been very poor keeping.

I get that just don’t understand the over the top insults to one of our own players, especially one of our own players who performed heroics just last year.

Like I said earlier in the thread surely posters can make that point without the over the top insults?

As others have said, it's crazy to stick with Bairstow at the moment.
Just have to hope he doesn't make another decisive fumble in the next two tests.
