4th test Manchester

They will call early lunch shortly then it will start raining again. Appears little desire to get things going here. Edit....... Turns out that was the case. Cricket does itself no favours
This is heading to be a repeat of the Saturday at Headingley. It just takes time to get pitch ready after rain, pointless umpires inspecting until work has progressed.

I fully understand it takes time. My point is they were doing nothing up until the announcement when it had stopped raining. Show some desire to try and get the game on, get mopping up. The groundstaff will know exactly what the weather is doing and when it's not raining. It's not a good look at all to then call a break when they've been doing nothing in advance. The umpires inspected the pitch before any work started.

Makes sense
It will take that time to get pitch ready etc gets that mandatory break out the road
I'd have just stated lunch to be take now, and get out as soon as pitch is ready not having to wait till a set time.
If they get the pitch ready in half an hour, 15 mins are lost

Are you there? The ground staff at Headingley were very good and I presume they are at Old Trafford. I know admission prices are lower on the 5th day but would presume Lancashire want game under way to try and reduce chance of refunds.

They have drinks breaks, tell the soft twats to grab something to eat then. Its getting darker in SR2, I dont mind if it drags the weather away from old trafford

I don't need to be their, sky showed the pictures of the pitch and the ground staff were not cleaning up, only the security on the pitch. Lancashire won't have any say in anything. Cricket really doesn't help itself. It wasn't raining whilst this was all going on. Dither, delay then take a break. Happens everywhere in this country though. First time in a long time last week the umpires at Durham showed real initiative with the rain break and it worked out very well, no dithering at all.
