Not out way really. Runs on the board, wearing pitch for Swann with them batting last is what we usually go for.

Usual tactics. It's the same with our reluctance to chop and change teams, we have a set 11 and usually stick to it (except for example in Compton's case).

You aren't the first person to say that but I disagree. The pitches over there are better for batting and our batsmen haven't had the best series but the likes of Cook, Pietersen, Trott, Bell and Prior are miles better than what they have to offer generally. I think their pitches will suit us better.

sky even said at lunch (57-1) that batting was the right call and it was... we batted poorly, now we have to bowl well.

the aussies are generally more aggressive/positive than us so if they can keep wickets they'll have a lead by this time tomorrow. game on.

That's all fair enough. I just thought we would have bowled and nothing to do with 20/20 hindsight. It was just what I thought. I still think wasn't as bad as some people think.

However, we will know more by the end of today.

I'm inclined to agree with that, IF we continue to play as negatively as we have done this series and did in New Zealand earlier in the year. Last time we were over there we had no fear of a quick run rate or making a bold positive decision, i.e. bowling first in Melbourne, going on the offensive in Brisbane in our 2nd innings. If we can just get that mentality back and just get a bit of confidence into our batting, I see no reason why we can't win the series over there as well. It's the negativity and overly defensive attitude that could ultimately cost us.

In theory aye. In reality this is where they are at as batsman unless they improve markedly on the form of the last few years.

the pitches so far in this series have been more like the pitches here which makes me worry. we're also being reckless rather than positive or aggressive.

why do you think that is? it can't be complacency this late in the series after the last test match :-?

or maybe a complacency in the sense of the fact their positions are safe in the team? ;-)
 
Broad has been bowling a full Greggs of pies, and then pitches one up, it swings and is a beauty.

Like he was supposed to from the start.
