3rd test - Headingley

You’d imagine it’ll be challenging to bat when they do come out. We need to make it count.
It’s always a double-edged sword. Lately, commentators speak most about the problems for bowlers of gripping a wet ball. But I’m guessing the wicket should be damper and, perhaps, the outfield slower.

Not sure I’ve grasped your concept there marra🤔
I’ll have another go. Earlier poster commented the declaration must have increased our chance of losing because we lost. This is a logical fallacy (it’s even commonplace enough to have a name, post hoc ergo propter hoc). The fact we lost doesn’t in itself mean any given thing we did must have increased our chance of losing. Obviously, the other three things I mentioned didn’t increase our chance of losing. So you need to be more subtle in assessing whether the first one did.

As it happens I’m pretty sure you can say this one did increase our chance of losing, for the reason given by @Voice of fair play that it decreased the chance if a draw and so increased the chance of either side winning.

The test of whether it could be justified then needs to look at it based on win/ loss probability. On whether it increased the chance of you winning by more than it increased the chance of the other team winning. It’s at least arguable it did the former. England win more than they lose from the day one position. They win more than they lose from the day five with an hour to go position too, despite the awful performance in the field in day two. So it’s not a no brainer that it was a bad call by any means.

It's amazing what people weather apps are saying mind . Ranging from no rain this afternoon to we'll get no play today and the rest of the test the weather is looking good but bad enough that we'll get no play for rest of the match
