2ND ASHES TEST: LORDS

Interesting - and unnerving - that both captains would have bowled.

Lack of confidence in their batting lineups
All about early wickets if you bowling first , if we can see off the new ball ok then it’s looks an awful choice to bowl first

Looking at the forecast, today is the best day to bat, even if it isn’t ideal. Could be rolled for 50 tomorrow if the rain comes in and you are in and out

Nice comment from Gower about seeing Atherton in red. An unlikely sight, given the fact of Atherton being an avowed Tory.

Always wonder if there's double bluff going on. Root says he wouldn't have batted but that doesn't mean it's true. He may not want the Aussies to know what he'd do in future Tests. Also it maybe puts pressure on batting if he says he would have batted anyway.
It'd be a big risk to not bat first with Lyon in their side.

Good point. I hope so.

Interesting that Starc is left out again, but Hazelwood is a fine bowler and very much suited to Lords conditions.

From an England perspective, Joe Denly is a very lucky boy and surely in last chance saloon.
