I don’t think cases are impacted by back dated numbers, mainly deaths.

7 day average is the best guide fir a trend up or down really

Just to compare Uk with todays figures for some other European nations and populations to nearest million.
UK 1820 deaths - 66 million
Germany 423 deaths - 84 million
Poland 219 deaths - 38 million
Sweden 31 deaths - 10 million
Russia 597 deaths - 145 million
Ukraine 212 deaths - 43 million.

We are on a different level to anything on the planet🤔🤔🤔

Hearts go out to the family's who are suffering pain at the loss of a loved one to this horrific time and the deadly virus that it has inflicted upon the world.

The Increase on patients being admitted to hospital and put on a ventilator is proportionally reducing, so deaths should reduce by about 30% from the figures we’re seeing now within 7-10 days from today and then reduce again still as the lockdown and vaccines take effect. That’s the only good news. The death toll today is terrible.

Yep, just under 50 % of uk hospital beds are being used to treat patients with covid....

It seems like an absolute lifetime ago since deaths dropped down to double figures. Absolutely heartbreaking numbers dying now. Rest in peace to every one of them 😪 .

Even taking into account Christmas and New Year, I honestly don't know how we can be vastly so much worse than other places.

Higher, yes, I can understand that. But that much higher?

What's the generally accepted wisdom as to why that is?

Is it purely down to the new strain we've got here? Surely other countries can't have/haven't realistically protected themselves from that strain arriving on their shores?

IS it down to reporting... are we ahead in the curve and some of them still hve bigger stings to come ?

look at some of the smallere nations such as Hungary , Czeck republic and you take them pro rata to population they are bursting the 1000 a day.

Or are we just truly feckless?

Sadly lost a relative today mid 60's did have an underlying condition but one that would have seen him have quite a few potential years of life left, person in the bed next to him had dies the night before as well, seems like it horrendous on the front line. His wife will be devestated and lost they the srt of couple that did everything together. MOre sad that a lot of the people dying now would have been weeks away from getting the vaccine after potentially shielding/taking precations for nearly a year.

Its good the number of cases appears to be coming down hopefully refecects in the hospital numbers in next few weeks.
