2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers - Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe are now strolling this.
From a position of 37-4 and then 91-5 with all of the top 5 bats gone, Scotland have thrown this away with slack middle over bowling and sloppy fielding….Zimbabwe now only need 71 from 120 balls with 5 wickets in hand.
Take a wicket now and we’re into the bowlers, but…..woah hang on….Madhevere is out.
Window slightly opened for Scotland.

Burl could still ease Zimbabwe home if the Scots bowling is not tight.
Masakadza goes for 5 c Berrington b McMullen and Zimbabwe are now 177-7.
Still doable as long as Burl is still there. Scotland need to keep the bowling and fielding tight.
….
Ngarava out for 2 c&b Leask
Zimbabwe now 182-8….

Burl out for 83 from 84 balls c McMullen b Leask
Zim a we now 197-9 and the 10 & 11 are at the crease.
….

And Scotland win by 31 runs!

Zimbabwe 203 all out with 8.5 overs remaining.

What a crazy game.

But….unless half of the Scottish bowling improves somewhat, I can see Netherlands beating them on Thursday to take the final place for India.

Any ideas on NRR a small defeat might still be enough

Basically, Zimbabwe are cooked.

If Scotland win, or if there is no result, they go through
If Netherlands win, they need to win by about 25 runs to overhaul Scotland NRR
There is no possible scenario where both Scotland and Dutch NRR drops below that of Zimbabwe

Either way, there will be an associate at the World Cup at the expense of 3 test nations

Does that mean Netherlands have to bat first and go for it?

I meant what that might look as as a scoreline. Sorry should have been clearer.

NRR is like swahili, just go with what the stat boffins say when it comes down to NRR being a factor.
Ah sorry….and it is Swahili to me as well….but the ICC have said that Netherlands need to beat Scotland “by a significant margin to qualify”.

From Cricinfo:

If Netherlands score 250, Scotland can afford to lose by up to 31 runs to stay ahead on net run. A win by 32 or more runs for Netherlands will lift their NRR above Scotland's. If Scotland bat first and score 250, they will stay ahead on NRR if Netherlands chase it down in around 44.1 overs (depending on how they get their winning runs). If they chase it down any sooner, then Netherlands will trump Scotland's run rate and take the second qualification

Sudden death game really. Sweaties batting first. I think the Netherlands will win.

Scotland 1-1 already.
I think I read now Scotland are batting first if they score 250 Netherlands would have to knock them off after 44 overs to overtake the NRR.

It used that number whether they get that is another story. Obviously not sure on how they work out NRR

Edit: yep as per below
