Isn't this like signing players on Championship and Football Manager?
In real life Artjoms Rudnevs is now on loan to Hannover 96.

It's the Hamburg model. We originally chose the wrong team in Udinese. The results are clear for all to see from Hamburg's results in the Bundesliga.

2002/3: 4th (qualified for UEFA Cup)
2003/4: 8th (qualified for Intertoto Cup)
2004/5: 8th (qualified for Intertoto Cup)
2005/6: 3rd (qualified for Champions League)
2006/7: 7th (qualifiedfor Intertoto Cup)
2007/8: 4th (qualified for UEFA Cup)
2008/9: 5th (qualified for UEFA Cup)
2009/10: 7th (qualified for Europa league)
2010/11: 8th (one place off Europe)

2011: Arrival of Lee Congerton.

2011/12: 15th (one place above the relegation playoffs)
2012/13: 7th
2013/14: 16th (relegation playoff spot)

I'm not sure how we ever managed without one of these guys tbh.

Has somebody pointed this out to Ellis Short? It looks like Congerton is single handedly responsible for destroying Hamburg looking at that.

It looks to me that someone with decent IT skills has worked out a way of creating a role in a very lucrative industry, A role that previously had no requirement for said skills.

they pulled almost all funding when appointing congerton, for a fair reflection look at his deals with Chelsea and most of their reserves are playing at a decent level, that imo of course is why he's here poyet still buys the players but congy will purchase reserves.

I know mate, I was just being sarcastic to the poster who posted all of the league positions hinting that it was proof of Congerton's failure.

Why are people talking as if they were 'his' deals? Like he has some kind of vast experience here? He was Arnesen's assistant. He's never been a Sporting Director until now.

Worked out well last time we gave a vital squad recruitment role to someone who had no experience. Sacked within a year having lumbered us with a load of crap. Fingers crossed this is less of a disaster.

I'm still torn on the whole De Fanti business tbh. I'd like to hear his side of the story first. It worries me a bit that our current scouts are off to clubs like Inter Milan without getting any time to really do anything here whilst we replace them with a pair who were part of a team who have overseen the decline of a massive Bundesliga club.
