I have always been puzzled - only slightly - by the tendency of people to get all chest pumped and fist clenchingly enthusiastic about the size of the crowd, the number of tickets or the quality of humour in songs or chants. It would be much nicer to be able to enthuse about some entertaining football or a successful team. I suppose that’s only a matter of time now though. We have people in place who are saying the right thing. Success is guaranteed

I’m going to get shit for its aren’t I.

That's the mags for you Obsessed about crowds

offmenut, im not going to bite, everyone on the south coast knows Pompey are the biggest club.
I live in the new forest mate.
Know the south coast very well.

Work near Fareham. Hardly anyone gives a fuck about Pompey. Even the Pompey supporters. Quite a lot of saints fans though.

Think you got about 8000 for your last game cup home match.
Truly massive
Pompey Exeter Eastleigh and Torquay are likeable clubs and I know a few lads who look on them favourably as a second club. Good to see all the little clubs doing well down here.

To be honest I think I'm more fascinated about the sheer hatred and bitterness towards anything Newcastle related. I've never experienced anything like it. I've never seen other clubs with people with the likes of ftm in there names and judging there whole club on been one place better off than Newcastle.

If you came 14th in league 1 and we came 15th I don't think most your fans would be bothered at all.
Fuck off ya dribbling nitwit.

Stewart just tweeted

Another busy morning in the ticket office. Thank you so much for the response. 18000 and going strong - what an unbelievable support. Fantastic effort - what a club, truly special support and completely appreciated. Thanks to everyone

Wonder how many we had last season. About 24,000 maybe? I know attendances were often read out as being about 27,000, so allowing for away fans and some paying on the day that could be about right. Would be great to see us get near to that figure, probably unrealistic but I can't really see why anyone would renew last season but wouldn't go this season (other than personal circumstances etc of course). I was slightly looking forward to the Championship last season, but nowhere near as myth as I'm looking forward to this now there's a genuine positive vibe around the ob place and, hopefully, something to look forward to

Last season's total was 18,000, this is why the number is so impressive.

I think we won’t be far short of last seasons attendances, maybe not straight away but if we put a decent run together people who are undecided will be back

Was that published anywhere? Just our average was officially 27,500. Away fans were often only around 1,000 or so. Did we really have 8,500 or so turning up on a match by match basis? Maybe right but I'd have thought unlikely, especially at the tail end of the season. If only 18000 season card holders, and say a thousand in the away end, I'm sure we'd have heard some attendances given as 23k or thereabouts but even Burton was apparently 25.5k. How many did they bring? We'd have had to have sold a lot on the day to reach 25000 with only 18000 season card holders and their away support!

I know I sound like a broken record, but there is no reason why we can’t have 25,000 season card holders by the start of the season.

We pride ourselves as being a big club, but it’s now time to show it.

That’s fuckin amazing that mind
Chuffed
What a club
When you think about it...
We've won SIX league games at home in 2 full seasons (finishing bottom twice)
Finished in the top half ONCE in 10 years of being in the PL (the luckiest top half finish ever thanks to the mags)
Stayed up by the skin of our teeth (or relegated) in 7 of those 10 seasons.
We have no idea who will even be playing for us next season and have just appointed an unknown manager from the 2nd tier in Scotland.

Feel free to add to this list!

If we hit 20k ST holders that would be unbelievable IMO.

It will be better with 24k fans who get behind the team rather than loads of tourists and moanie minnies.

Of course it would be even betterer with FORTY EIGHT THOUSAND SCREAMING MACKEMS, SANDIES AND OTHER TYNESIDERS, PITMATICS, EAST DURHAM COALFIELD DWELLRS, CRAZY JOCK SKIRT WEARERS AND ASSOCIATED EXILES etc. in the stadium.

This was the whole point of the 20,000 season ticket goal, to actually suprass last season's numbers. I can't find it, but 18,000 was definitely the official number for last season.

But you need to add it up, we haven't lost 6000 season ticket holders mate, all the evidence suggests people are coming back than going away. The massive ques at the ticket office, the people on here saying they're going back, all adds to the fact numbers are going up, not down.

I absolutely agree. Of course there's personal circumstances like work, finances, distance etc but if you can make it to the stadium and can afford to do it I don't see why any genuine SAFC fan wouldn't buy a season card. There's positivity, hope, and the chance that we might actually get a side worth watching for the first time in a long time. We've got passionate, communicative owners and a manager who isn't just on the gravy train waiting for a pay off and who needs to make this work. I'm probably more excited for this season than I have been for most premier league seasons where we go into it knowing we're making up the numbers. 25000 should be easily achievable tbh
