2 bands with the same name

Is this common?

I’ve just seen this article Jonny Craig Leaves Slaves Following Relapse and it confused the Hell out of me because the only Slaves I’m aware of are the English band who are a duo.

It turns out there are 2 - the one I know, and an American hardcore band:
Slaves (UK band) - Wikipedia
Slaves (American band) - Wikipedia

I’ve never known 2 decent sized bands with the same name.
Suede are known as the london suede in the American market due to some legal wrangling with another band of the same name

Nah not really.....

Pink Floyd - pink

The undertones - The overtones

Small faces - the faces
Aye because those are the same! You’re not going to see an article that says “Pink splits with husband” and think “ I never knew Syd Barrett was gay”

Suede are known as the london suede in the American market due to some legal wrangling with another band of the same name
Now you mention it I think I knew that!

I attempted to get a band called Boyzone a deal in the 80s.

A&R men told me that we’re about 3 bands a week with variations of that name (Boyzone, Boys Own etc) hawking their demos.

It wouldn’t surprise me it there were equivalents worldwide.

PS The Spinners. Uk and US. Added ‘Detroit’ in the UK to avoid confusion with a folk group.

There are probably more
