Abrogation of selectoral responsibility. Why name the extra man?

1) Injury concerns? Can only think of Broad with his knee and Prior with his back

2) Unknown conditions, unlikely at Trent Bridge.

If it's either of the above, why not include a specialist 'keeper or spinner as the extra man instead of ANOTHER quickie.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Agree. Surprised at the continued inclusion of Woakes. It's almost as if they don't want to upset him(!)

Cook, Robson, Root, Bell, Ballance, Ali, Prior, Stokes, Jordan, Broad, Anderson.

If we're not looking at Borthwick, then yes it has to be Panesar.

Why on earth put Root at three man!! Christ!

And no Plunkett? Bizzare mate.

Think we'll be in a worse position than we were first time around. Anderson close to retirement, Cook in poor form, Broad with a knackerd knee, no front line spinner and no KP. Welcome back, Pete.

We are missing Trott miles more than KP

Wouldn't put a penny on or against this England team.

No doubt Ali will be dropped for Stokes.

Not sure Jordan will play myself.

You'd hope not mate, every ground should prepare a wicket to suit pace/seam/bounce and for no turn whatsoever. India's seamers have done fuckall in the warm-up games.

They look very average.

It's exactly why he's in there. Jobs for the boys.

No way will they drop mo after his Headingley ton. Jordan will be out,

Why include the extra quickie then? Cook won't use him as a frontline bowler.

He's a natural number 3, Ballance isn't.

Don't think Plunkett should have been in squad the first place. Agree that Trott is a miss but KP's ability to take the game away from opposition is a massive miss.

Plunkett was by far our best bowler in the last test, and if we have no spinner we need variation in all our seamers, no idea why you wouldn't include him.

No way shape or form Root should be moved from 5, he isn't good enough against the new ball, footwork all over the place, and he has the game of a middle order player. Ballance is a back foot player too, but seems to have a tougher mentality than Root, think he will get through it.

Root isn't a natural top order player at test level like, his record proves it.

Is there much difference between stats when he's batted at the top of the order compared to when he has at 5 or 6?

And Ali more so, he's a natural opener/number 3.

Dunno why we've shoehorned ballance a natural number 5 into a number 3.

Jordan isn't a patch on Plunket as a bowler based on those 2 tests.

Do people have it in for him based on what happened at Durham?

Jordan is finding his feet at this level but the signs are promising. This is Plunketts second coming remember.Jordan is younger and we need to invest in him more than Plunkett.Thats why I d give him the nod.

trott or pietersen? i know johnson has a hatred for all things pietersen, but a cursory look at the stats, shows pietersen is a better player. ask any other captain in international cricket and they are well happy pietersen is no longer a player. trott is hardly missed at all
