16.4 Could be AXED!

wouldnt surprise me if this was the ECB plan all along, They'd never get a new T20 comp passed, so create a new format and create the franchises that way, then change it eventually back to t20 once its established, then the franchises exist with a commercial worth, sell them on make a profit,

No tv company wants a tournament with 18 teams as they cant show all the games or put the production into it,

I think you give ftecb too much credit for intelligence.

A Developer did that near where i used to live, wanted to build block of flats but got rejected. Converted the existing bar into a strip club and six months later ta da, got approved for a block of flats

Surely another £100m in marketing is all this outstanding, fresh, brave new super tournament needs to take over the world?

The refusal of those selfish counties to quietly cease to exist is holding the game back in this country, the county championship continues to throw up outstanding and totally gripping games of cricket, as it has done for decades . Hopefully we can kill off this nonsense sooner rather than later.

The thing that makes the IPL successful is two fold, each game is a big event fully televised and even more important the best players in the world are there.

Robert Key is right we need and should be able to attract the best players in the world.

I may be in the minority but personally find a summer T20 tournament in a window in the calendar where each game is televised and the best players in the world are pitting their wits against each other very exciting to watch as I do the IPL.

Absolutely this... i took the bairn and the Mrs to the hundred sorry .....16.4, last year and stayed in the headingley hotel. was well into the early hours before the whole production was stripped down

you can tell a big difference even when sky show up to a durham game, kids expect to see what they do on TV, replays, 3rd umpire, even as far as flames and fireworks, it cant be done for 18 teams

What did they expect man? I’m still trying to get my head around a bunch of blokes in suits sitting around a table and one of them going “you know what we need? A hundred ball competition” and them all agreeing to sink millions into it and shoe horn into the middle of the summer. f***ing brain dead.

FTECB!

it was always bloody obvious , I think we all knew how it would go, on this forum , apart from one or two

a colosall waste of time and money, when all they had to do, was let England players, play the T20 and the crowds would increase

when 90% of the audience at the time was told , they were irrelavent and a New Audience was needed, that to me was utterly ridiculous.

and don’t get me started on kids being inspired and it being a 180 mile round trip for ne kids to go

It can. Spending that very same money they’ve wasted on the likes of Dre russ and all the other suspects. Not a penny of that has helped English cricket

The ECB could put the effort in for the "razzmatazz" parts to be at every game, but no way all the games are getting televised, thats over 250 games, its too big no wonder tv networks dont want it

Streams? They cover all the county games now.

Needs to be on channels 1-4 to slap people in the face.

The streaming figures are poor.
Was talking about all the games though. Most are all on the same time and night, so there would be a televised game but the others would be on the streams

I’ve never wanted the 16.4 as the whole premise was wrong. You can’t spread the game by limiting it to areas in the country

it’s the exact opposite of spreading the game in my mind

It wasn’t ever about the crowds though. Blast crowds were decent anyway by cricket standards with the smaller grounds and the London test venues often close to full.

It was always about getting a saleable to tv product to compete with the other franchise leagues. As much as anything because the ECB needs pots of cash to prop up the catastrophically insolvent 18 county system that we all follow on here but far too few others do. Because in the end those “decent” attendances, at least away from test venues, are still only National League crowds paying Northern League prices. Seven times a year. Good luck funding a major professional sport on that.

Could have done that by letting England players play in the T20 that was

There was no need for this comp at all and it ruined the main part of the summer

Last season the test lads had no games from the end of may until august

That was never right imo

There’s no evidence that would be true. The Blast lost tv interest even as its crowds grew. The tv wasn’t interested in the 18 team multiple game format. It wasn’t selling. 11/18 of a test player in each team wouldn’t have saved it. The format spent most of 20 years falling further and further behind the IPL. For a reason.

So would you wish there were only six franchise teams in all formats and huge swathes of the country locked out of attending live cricket?

It wasnt the competing with the ipl so that point is moot

The t20 was successful, it was established

The 16.4 brought things that were all tried in the t20 for years previously

England players were not allowed to play. Did you see the 16.4 virtually none of the current England team played and money drained away to overseas players with no interest of helping the England team

Most of the big stars departed mid 16.4 tournament to play on the Caribbean t20 competition

No other major nation plays 16.4. Does that not say something?

Anyway I’ve been over this so many times , I’m not spending another night

I’ve given my view and that’s that , 94% of cricket watchers want the 16.4 abolishing

Unless it were to be split into two divisions
