16.4 Could be AXED!

If they keep it in the same slot in the calendar hence a window for the tournament but change to a T20 tournament that simply makes common sense.

A proper window for the Blast to replace the 16.4 in August. Local pride and tradition that nowhere else can match, England players all playing for their counties. What more do you want? Football has managed it with their "Premier League". Why does cricket need to follow the boring old franchise formula with made up teams no one gives a fuck about.

I realise I'm pissing in the wind here, just fancied a rant.

It’s not really a proposal to scrap it though is it? There are four things about the new tournament that set it apart and people get exercised about:
Having a different format than T20;
Clearing the schedule for it to attract big names;
Having fewer than the traditional 18 county franchises;
Having different franchises than the traditional 18 county franchises.

In many ways the first one is the most trivial either way.

Expand the Blast to two divisions with promotion and relegation

Have a separate T20 knockout cup with 32 teams to include 14 minor counties (similar to the old one day cup) with finals day (semis and final) in September.

Im buzzing personally, get rid of the 16.4 and i can fully concentrate on supporting the durham non-lions (i actually don't know what we're called in this format) in the 120 😎😎

Yes. They’re on about adding 20 more balls per innings, so it will no longer be the 16.4.
So long as it’s still a short form thrash between a limited number of new franchises with silly names at the peak of the season that relegates the county game to reserve status it’s not abolishing the bits I’m bothered about.

Indeed the opposite may be true if the other bit about involving the national counties in a development T20 is true. Just sounds like a further downgrade for the county game.

This is the key point for me.

wouldnt surprise me if this was the ECB plan all along, They'd never get a new T20 comp passed, so create a new format and create the franchises that way, then change it eventually back to t20 once its established, then the franchises exist with a commercial worth, sell them on make a profit,

No tv company wants a tournament with 18 teams as they cant show all the games or put the production into it,

The thing that makes the IPL successful is two fold, each game is a big event fully televised and even more important the best players in the world are there.

Robert Key is right we need and should be able to attract the best players in the world.

I may be in the minority but personally find a summer T20 tournament in a window in the calendar where each game is televised and the best players in the world are pitting their wits against each other very exciting to watch as I do the IPL.
