When I used to visit my gran in Concord in the 90s, I remarked “mark my words, one day these streets will provide one of the finest voices in football punditry & commentary”…

Looks like I was right.

The smoothness and Sophistication of Des Lynam, the vocal authority & gravitas of James Earl Jones, the tactical acumen of Alan Hansen…

It’s no doubt bittersweet as your tactical acumen and analytical videos will be missed on here. But well done.

 

[The Situation]

I saw the "11 points stat" a few weeks back, regarding the 30 promoted sides over the previous 10 seasons.

In the past 10 seasons of the Premier League, 12 promoted teams that achieved 11 or more points after their first 10 games avoided relegation. Conversely, out of remaining 18 teams with 10 or fewer points after the same number of matches, only two managed to stay in the Premier League. These exceptions were Bournemouth in the 2015-2016 season with 8 points and Nottingham Forest in the 2022-2023 season with just 5 points.

So at least 5 points from the next 7 games would be a nice minimum target.

I do think we need to caveat that slightly as I suspect not many, if any, promoted teams have had an "easier" start than us this season in terms of their fixture list.
