So are there any plans for the building that currently houses Primark or will it just become another empty shell as Joplings and also the former Littlewoods/T J Hughes building is now.

Haven't heard of any.
They could always remove the false wall that was put up to reduce the size of Woolies & create the current jobcentre. The way things are going a bigger jobcentre might be a useful thing to have.
Thinking about it the original Woolworths must have a been a bloody big shop. Primark plus the jobcentre.

Love that the media have bounced onto the bandwagon about the unemployed...

We could create so many jobs with the empty land/derelict buildings that exist in our town centre...

Tories pulled the funding..........

So why didn't they reapply like every other council and local authority has done.
And the government provided almost all of the money to buy the Vaux site for the council and they seem to think they'll get the money to build a shitty bridge now they've resubmitted the plans.
99% of people would rather see something that can generate money and provide jobs built instead of another bridge.
A low level swing bridge makes more sense for pedestrians and costs wise than a great big thing, it could still be built down in pallion as well.

Re-apply for what? They didn't apply for any money in the first place. Councils don't build crown courts and have very little say in the matter.

Yet they still managed to leave confidential plans where journos sit at a council meeting that desribed the full details of a court to be built on the Vaux site.
Or had you forgot about that?

It wasn't on the Vaux Site, it was at Farringdon Row. What was secretive/confidential? It was common knowledge.

It wasn't at a previous meeting when they denied it was even being considered, before they realised they had left the documents in the journo area.
It only became common knowledge because they fucked up, they even had a full meeting where they criticised the tory members for even suggesting something like this might happen.
Either a very short or a very selective memory Paddy.

Making a mountain out of a mole hill man. It's not Watergate. If it was info that was not yet for public consumption then that's quite normal procedure. Could hardly hide it for ever more. The submission of planning permission might have been a bit of a giveaway.

It could, maybe a bit better than leave the documents around and deny they even existed.
For someone not happy with the progress of Sunderland council you don't half go out of your way to try and defend them.

I'll criticise them when it's justified (there's plenty of opportunity for that) rather than that every opportunity (which is what you do).

You've moved away for reasons that were probably in your best interests and good for you, I did that 24 years ago. You obviously still have a great affection for the town and want it to be better, but you never have anything good to say about it. Whether it was a Labour council, a Tory one or little green blokes from Mars running the city it wouldn't stop it from being one of the poorest areas in one of the poorest regions of England. To suggest that a change from Labour to summat else would make Sunderland into Kensington is laughable.

It's not the poorest place though is it, only yesterday it was named in the top 10 of places with disposable income in the UK.
It's only kept rundown because people play up to the stereotype the council like to keep, i mean, why would they improve the place, people might vote otherwise.
Just like the myths Thatcher closed Sunderland down, look how often they get repeated on here.
Tony Benn nationalised the shipyards in 1976, the same year Labour sent us to the IMF as they bankrupted us and Wearmouth was closed under John Major.

twisting the facts again I see.
It was in the top 10 increases of growth of disposable income. Not actual disposable income

ie £100 to 150 is a greater increase than £200 to £250

It isnt just the shop they invest in, the area around it gets a makeover.
