Always some interesting goings on at club/village level

Actually, after looking at the results NCB posted at the top of this page, it looks like I've got the 2 leagues mixed up. I played in what is officially known as the North-East Durham Cricket League for Aycliffe, which used to contain Washington and Wearmouth, and still has East Rainton, Coundon, Hunwick etc. Quite a lower standard than the NEDL that you lads are playing in.

no that is the one mate. We play in the same league as East Raintion, Wearmouth etc on a Saturday. Sunday games aren't in the pyramid system so any team can enter in the Hetton Lyons League

Ah nice one mate, think this is Aycliffe's last year in the league before moving onto the NYSD. Let me know when you play down there and I'll try and get round as the club is my regular haunt.

Some canny away days in the NEDL like, Coxhoe, Kibblesworth, Whiteleas

Were those the Sunday results NCB was posting them?, Sorry for so many questions

Think that's my weekend off work so I will probably have a look down. Very young side Aycliffe, have a good youth setup down there now.

Had a nightmare of a game up Kibblesworth once, could barely hit the strip, dropped 2 catches and got a first baller, on the plus side England beat Germany 5-1 that night which meant I could use wanting to get away quickly as an excuse for being stumped first ball

Have you been to Medomsley before? - don't think I ever scored a run or held a catch there either

you couldn't see a strip on saturday:lol:. Not been to Medomsley before we have a trip there later in the season

You'll love it mate I'm sure

Well thanks for all the info Ed, quite keen to have a game now, or at least a net :)

That was the worst wicket I've seen in 20 years of cricket. Have we reported them or have we let them off??

Was it really that bad?, been a while now but can't remember Kibblesworth's wickets ever being so bad. Wait until you get to Tantobie, Hunwick, Coxhoe and Littletown

If you fancy a game but don't fancy the trek yet, the SMB have a game in Bishop Auckland. Much closer for you.

Didn't realise you were seperate teams, I thought a few of you had all just joined the same club and/or helped form a third team

Used to always enjoy playing at Bishop, lovely ground, good wicket and excellent changing rooms.

Do you have regular nets?

We were the SMB, we then 'became' Houghton 3rds as well. A lot of players play for both.

The game is just in Bishop, its not at Bishop. King James Rugby Club is where the game will be held.

Nets are at Houghtons ground every Tuesday and Friday from 6pm.

It was that bad. It was no fault of the club and to be fair they did as much as they could to get the game played - had an umpire turned up i reckon he'd have called the game off.

Basically their groundsman (council again) hadn't prepared ANY wickets - the outfield hadn't been cut either. Bit of a nightmare really.

I see, King James isn't quite the same quality of pitch as Bishop Auckland's I'll warn you now

I think I'll try and get up for a net sometime soon, finish work at 4pm every day so our lass could bring me up, although god knows what state I'll be in the next day as I've not picked up a bat or ball for 5 years

SMB CC affiliated with HCWCC last year and a third team was created and entered into the Hetton Lyons Sunday League which we ran. Now the whole thing is a lot more integrated and a lot of our lads play for the 2s etc. However I've kept the 3s fixtures up as there is still a massive crossover between that and SMBCC. Hope that makes sense!

And yes mate please get involved, getting that SMB game at Bishop in your diary for starters. We have another two debutants playing for us tonight.

I'm sure I'll get my head round it eventually! At one point at Aycliffe I used to play 2nd XI on a Saturday, U18's on a Tuesday, 1st XI midweek league on a Wednesday and 1st XI cup games scattered in between the remaining days so it was difficult to keep up with who I was playing for and when!

When is the Bishop game?, it's only 15 minutes away for me. Would definitley like a net first though, I'm like a Boycott when it comes to batting practise (Except I never score nowt and get out more)

IIRC they play in the Darlington and District League which Aycliffe played in during my first season there. Some of the grounds were unreal, Eryholme, Trimdon and I always remember East Cowton as it was literally a field outside the back of a housing estate, we spent more time in back gardens finding the ball than we did fielding
