What sort of standard are you lads playing at in this league? Just curious

the standard is very mixed you get from some very promising players coming through this league who could easily play 1st team cricket for many clubs along with a few ex first team experienced players, to some very average and poor players. Most teams have about 3 or 4 decent players who if you either get out or see off you stand a very good chance of winning the game.

It was like ruddy lords today compared to yesterday.

great effort and a very good game of cricket. Well played everyone.

If it's not bad enough the umpire robbed me of 4 runs from the first ball, the score book has robbed Dumpling and I of a wicket! it was the young'un who made 51 if you want to correct the score book ;) and I bowled a lad leg stump.

From what I seen today Scott and Paul started us of well, and looks to be a good way forward. Tom and Pete were excellent but he'll need a new handle and splice in that county bat (too much oil on a bat ain't great.

Personally I think all the bowlers bowled well. I always enjoy a mis-hit for 6 against my bowling and the batsman saying sorry with a cheeky smile on his face...
well done boys

:lol::lol::lol:priceless

What league are you in? I used to play in the North-East Durham League as a teenager. Better standard than that would you say?

im not sure mate, the majority of our team are 3rd team players and no more, with maybe 3/4 stepping up to 2nd team standard if required... if the opening days scores are anything to go by then i would suggest that the league has improved greatly from last year, most of us are only in our 2nd season playing the game so have no knowledge of the league you mentioned mate.

quite a few are probably around the same standard as half the 2nd division and the 3rd division of the NEDL although Durham City would probably be first division standard, some are lower than that particually Wearmouth.

Our lads are probably the best matched in the leagues as the whole team are of the same sort of standard.

Cheers for info Ed. Asked because NCB tried to tap me up in the winter (Non-gay I think), and I do fancy it just travelling is an issue. Not played for 5 years now but still get the itch every so often.

:p

That Ali who got 6 wickets came on 4th change and ended up winning the game for them, we were looking likely to win it..

I see you just lost to Washington Academy, If you got Fallon out you's would have pissed it.

Thanks mate, I may pop up one time and watch you lads play. Is NEDL the North-East Durham League? - can't think of what else it could stand for!

yes mate i was to lazy to type it out:lol:

No problem mate I thought it was that but I was wondering if I'd gone a bit thick as I used to play for Aycliffe in the NEDL and can't recall Houghton ever being in the league then, I'm guessing there's been a recent league change for you guys?.

yes got demoted from the coast league a few years ago for a number of reasons some I don't even know nor will be told.

Always some interesting goings on at club/village level

Actually, after looking at the results NCB posted at the top of this page, it looks like I've got the 2 leagues mixed up. I played in what is officially known as the North-East Durham Cricket League for Aycliffe, which used to contain Washington and Wearmouth, and still has East Rainton, Coundon, Hunwick etc. Quite a lower standard than the NEDL that you lads are playing in.
