[/IMG]this is blackhalls pitch that the bairns used to net on tonight. they 2 others prepared like this as well. we can't get the fucker to roll ours never mind cut the grass.
edit dont look at it too long or you'll get a bad neck.

As i was looking at it i thought - theres fuck all wrong with that pitch.
The realised it wasnt ours :roll:

I went down yesterday and the pitch he's cut for sunday look ok although it could do with more grass on it. I have asked him to put some grass seeds on the square and give it a good roll.
The pitches are not an easy situation and don't really want to talk about it on here tbh.
If anyone wants to be in earlier then I can let them in if required for practie tomorrow. Don't use any of the pitches on the strip, use either the outfield like Tuesday or the artificial pitch. The groundsman said he will try to get some other wicket cut of the square soon.

Fair enough - We probably shouldn't be openly critical on here as you never know who is reading.

You're right really. However having played on ryhopes pitch in the past(which is also council owned) the difference between the two pitches is immense. Ryhopes is like a test wicket compared to Houghton. There shouldn't be THAT much difference between the two.

Good for batsmen. Flat as a pancake, add in short boundaries and it's a batsmen paradise.
Rare you will see a bowler coming off there with brilliant figures.
Problem with houghtons pitch is football gets played on the surrondings during the winter, you have people kicking footys around on it, hundreds of people walking on it, plus the fact the groundsmen doesn't do anything to it after the last game of the season.
Couple of years ago when I was playing for houghton it was a decent wicket, good contest between bat and ball, could get wickets, but if someone batted well then they would get a good score,
I'm hoping given time it will get back to that sort if standard during the season.

Used to say if you can't get runs there you'll never get them anywhere. Cracking wicket to bat on!!!
