James Anderson Watch in Australia

mate, if you think there wasnt much in it, fair enough, I dont feel its worthy of a response tbh. The fact Jimmy couldnt get a game says it all

In 2005 Anderson was going through a terrible time after being persuaded to remodel his action. However i agree - the fact remains that Jimmy Anderson wasnt as good a bowler as those 4 anyway.

Im sorry but this team wouldnt come close to beating the 2005 Aussie side FFS

Trescothick is better than all of them bar KP who played in that series anyway

Vaughan is a miles better captain than Strauss

I agree  but not to the extent that its a joke discussion.

I dont think think theres much in the batting particularly as Bell now is much better than Bell then and Prior is much better than Jones. Our spinner now is much better than our spinner then but the 2005 team smack the arse off the current team in seam bowling and that would be the difference.

With respect, Jones scored a test 100 against Warne & Co. He imploded on the 2007 tour. As I have said before, its difficult to compare different eras, even from 2005 to 2010 because so many of the great bowlers in world cricket have now retired and the new breeed opt to play 20/20 instead

No he didn't, highest score against Aus was 85 at Trent Bridge ;)

Broad is better than Jimmy.

I don't think that is the case. Broad is still too raw. His record in comparison to jimmy is not as good.

Since 2008 Jimmy has played 36 tests taking 143 wickets at 28 with a wicket every 9 overs.

Malfoy has played 33 tests, taken 98 wickets at 35.5 and a wicket every 11 overs.

Jimmy may or may not be world class, but he is currently England's best quick.

Broad has the potential to be a very good bowler, but he needs to grow up a bit. Jimmy certainly has, he burst onto the scene 10 or so years ago, lost his way a bit and has come back very well. Hats off to him for his hard work.

165 - 38 - 498 - 17

17 @ 29.29 no less.

Good, no?

Irrespective of the arguments about how good/bad Australia are, those are decent figures in "the toughest place to play cricket". Leading the attack - he's bowled 50+ more overs than the nearest seamer (Finn) and only 10 less than Swann. Suffice to say that Jimmy has done his job this series with aplomb.

good post. However, in Australia, many on here, most notably Rentaghost, have stated that you need to make inroads with the new ball as it doesnt do much after the first 10-15 overs. As Broad doesnt get the new ball in our bowling attack I think its unfair to draw a like for like comparison as bowling with a new ball gives you a much opoortunity to take wickets on whatever sufrace you play, which is why the best batsmen in the world bat 4 and dont open.

He does

yep your right he has done. However, he has only had the new ball in the last year or so. I believe Broad is a big game player and turns in performances in the do or die games.

If my life depended on it, id chuck the ball to Broad. Just my own personal opinion. Its a shame we havent played any of the major test nations in the last 12 months or so as some thrive against big game opposition such as KP and others dont

Is this based on the Oval only?

last game in SA when Jimmy didnt take a wicket, he emerged with credit from the game

Test novices were running through Pakistan and Bangladesh such as Finn to put Jimmys performances into context

This is about your view on Broad being a proven do or die performer which you have stated many times. I'm willing to accept that i'm just wondering what you are basing it on? So far we have one match surely there are many other examples?

A test match bowling average of 35 would suggest not

do or die games are not that prevailent in the modern era due to the lack od quality sides. In the little opportunity there has been, Broad delivers. I learn more about players when there backsides are against the wall and the pressure is cranked up a notch than knocking over sides in helpful conditions where your expected to win

So, no pressure on the first day at Adelaide or Melbourne, Ashes series all square?

until the clubbies/fraudsters hit town, this was Jimmy career average which you amongst other others were wanking over 12 months ago.

Il find the posts.

As I have said many times before Jimmys career average was about 45 after two years in the test side. Why dont you judge Broad when he has had a 10 year test career, 500 test wickets and a bowling average of less than 30

Willing to stake a wager on this as I did with Cook with SC

Broad played against the same clubbies and fraudsters as Anderson and Finn. I'm a Broad fan and think he's a good bowler who will get better, but I see Anderson as a more dangerous bowler than him in most conditions, and thats because Anderson has just about proved himself everywhere.
