No Australian batsman in the worlds top 10 at the start of the series...

to be the best you have to beat the best, you dont get to number one in the world by knocking over crocks and has beens
Three batsmen who have been ranked number one in the world in the past 2-3 years ... lies, damned lies and statistics.
I hope you've got the champagne nicely chilled tonight EB ?![]()
bought some last winter for South Africa, its still chilled....
will be coming out for India ''if''we beat them
cant get over excited about beating the 5th ranked side in the world

Pathetic to be honest, That's like a Sunderland fan saying i am not celebrating after beating Newcastle will have to wait until we beat Man Utd to do that
strange man/boy
Aussies arent all that anymore im afraid. Apart from the nostalgia of beating the auld enemy, dont mean a lot in world terms.
As a South African journalist said, apart from Aussies/English who else in world cricket cares about two middle of the road sides competing for the Ashes. It doesnt catch the world's attention like 2005, as the quality is rank ordinary.
We beat the Australians when they had their best team out in 2005. At the end of the day you can only beat whats put in front of you. They had plenty of years lauding it over us, so at least let's enjoy the moment should it arise......go on lad I dare ya![]()
As a coneseur of quality test match cricket such as Atherton vs Donald, Warne at Adelaide in 2007, KP @ the Oval in 2005....I gain some satisfaction from winning over there but not a lot.
Its a shame the overall quality of test cricket is so poor at the minute, its a dying facet of cricket IMO not helped by the IPL & 20/20 cricket in general
If Steyn packed in tomorrow, id struggle to name a single world class bowler in the world game. Four years ago they rolled off the tongue
I would not disagree that the quality of test cricket is not at an all time high. But as much as I miss the real superstars of World cricket I will enjoy tonight (hopefully) and then we can address the future of the Test game tomorrow. The starting point would be a resurgence in the W Indies....

You are obviously an observer of English cricket not a supporter of it?
Fair enough
why would I not be a supporter of the English team?
just becuase I dont the share the English disease of getting carried away by beating dross. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.
You were saying the other day that this Aussie side had some 'Very good Batsmen'
they do have some good batsman
As I made reference to the other day they have two of the worlds top 20 batsman
Pakistan & Bangladesh have none
Therefore the Aussies are ranked higher than Bangladesh and Pakistan but ranked way below SA/India, which is why in SA we were outplayed in three tests
So to be clear, are England bowling out dross or very good batsmen
