Just want to reiterate that C&C are most definitely welcome for me. I'm an idiot and I forgot to put this on the entries thread  I'll be posting my thoughts on the entries as soon as the missus gives me a minute's peace so I can concentrate on it!

Well you can always tell people you're an idiot on next month's entries thread if you wish.

Whatever floats your boat. ;)

Right. For what it's worth, here's my two penneth on this month's entries. Contrary to what other's have said, I don't think the standard has been poor this month, and I resent the implication that entrants have resorted to cliche's. I think it was a very challenging theme in that it took a lot of people out of their photographic comfort zone. Here's my C&C:

Merica A nice clean & simple image. Creeps me out a bit but just doesn't quite grab me. A bit too simple perhaps? Still, very well executed.

Ghost of EH7 I feel a bit daft commenting on someone who is way ahead of me in terms of ability but here goes anyway. Again, a technically very good image but I just don't find it that spooky. I also think there's an element of personal taste involved as well as it just doesn't do it for me. Or rather, it didn't - as soon as Spav mentioned that it reminded me of an REM cover I totally changed my mind and loved it...just not in the context of this theme.

China Mackem One vote from me this month - Great idea, great use of light, and a great use of B&W. Most of all, a very spooky image!

Bigmac I quite like this image - it's clean and well exposed, I just think it could have been compose slightly differently. The dock seems to lead the eye through the image but the subject (the ghost) is near the front of the dock, rather than the end. I love how the trees and ground frame the ghost though.

Cartman I really like the idea, just not sure you've got the exposure quite right. You've also been a monthly winner so I'm being a little harsh on you!

Clyde Again, great idea, but there's something lacking in the composition. I also think that more should be made of the background/location. As with EH7, I feel a bit daft offering my C&C - I absolutely love your work on flickr and have whiled away many an hour sifting through your photostream.

Not Spavin I think all of your entries so far have demonstrated both imagination and humour, and this month is no different. I don't find it that spooky, but I do feel that it's a valuable contribution to the competition.

Smoker Technically very good and I'm a fan of long exposures/light painting. I just feel that it's a bit busy. And your username always makes me want a tab!

Peachbum I always look forward to see your ideas each month. For me, the competition is as much about thought processes, ideas, and creativity as it is technical expertise. I think it's a really nice image, just not that spooky!

Janiep As with PB, I really look forward to seeing what you've come up with each month. It's love seeing people develop their skills and ideas (there's the teacher in me coming out!) and I think that your entry this month is an excellent 'mood' piece. Great use of B&W.

Keeps21 One vote from me. Well executed and spooky as fuck!

Me Disappointed in myself again - Don't think I've given this comp my full attention since February and need to put a lot more thought in this month.

Definitely an Andy M month for me. With a hint of peachbum again

Fair assesment I think.

I'm the Hammer House of Horror on this topic

In general though I think your opinions are as valid as anyone elses.

I was talking to some very gifted and highly qualified artists a couple of weeks ago at an exhibition and although I was reticent to comment they said the same thing. Everyone's opinion is valid.

Can I just clarify that mine was never meant to be spooky. Just ghostly.

It was a montage of 3 pictures taken a mile apart on Shepherd Drive in Houston. Each of the subjects will be gone within the year as establishments close.

You just can't help yourself. Anything that comes close to a landscape shot....
;)

As I progress as a photographer it becomes more about the art.

As someone said, each to his own.

I thought it was an SMB member's back passage during colonic irrigation

He really gets into some awkward spots :-D

Anyway, last month I voted for Peachbum's bloomers, before that Clyde's cafe interior, and Cartman's weed, so I refute your allegation sir ;)

I even resisted the temptation vote for bigmac's knackered moped. I don't think I was turned on that month

Thanks for your comments, I like reading all the appraisals. As you said sometimes it feels wrong commenting on a photographer who is far more professional and technically capable than oneself, but we are viewers of the photographs so I give my thoughts as a viewer rather than as a photographer (if that makes sense.?)

It also makes me laugh, that I think I have got more than my usual three votes this month and they have come from different sources, but I think it is my weakest entry (didn't meet topic, not technically good etc) so far.

3 votes cast. Some very clever stuff going on this month but imo one of the most simple shots nailed it:

Chinamackem - Winner this month for me, simple but very effective. Even though its just a doll, the shot captures the childlike look of fear perfectly. Like a still from a Psycho film. Great shot.

Joint second:

Peachbum - I think you summed it up yourself when you mentioned about it being more a Alien/Sci-fi theme shot, none the less its a great photo & a very clever concept.

AndyM - The eerie tunnel. Great colours and really nice contrast from dark to the light at the end of the tunnel and on the tunnel walls. Very nice mate.

I did intend to get something in this month but only really found time for the camera whilst on holiday and it totally slipped my mind to try and find something that would fit the theme. Got an idea for this months though.

It was a humorous entry though.

My best entry so far was an orange I cut in half.

The two I liked the most were Ghost of EH7 (I'm biased as I'm married to him, but love the shot - it's now on my office wall) and Janiep, who I thought captured a really spooky scene.

Hello new poster. I think you're great

Congratulations keeps21, a worthy winner.

Cheers, it certainly makes up for the 0 votes I got last month. :)

I'd like to thank all of the people that made this possible. My mam and dad, Nikon, all those people that voted for me and especially little 10lb 4Oz baby Jesus.

:lol::lol:

I guess the only down side now is that you all know what I look like (plus a little photoshopping).

A few of you have said that the shot was lit well. So here's how I did it.

I used off camera flash on the floor about half a foot away from me pointing straight up at my chin.

Basically I aimed to get the effect you get when you're a young'un and put a torch right under your chin to look scary when telling ghost stories.

:)

Aye, well done keeps.

Made it over the line this time.

Aye, the mind games didn't work this time.

Well done keeps!

1) Well done Keeps!

2) Janie I wanted to say when I did you on my voting reasons, try placing a sheet of paper over the right hand side of your picure hiding most of the door and you will see a much stronger composition, but I forgot. And to BillytheKid, same for you. :)
