Russell has lost about 30s of race time sitting behind Hadjar's broken car there. Could have just took the stop ages ago and then caught up to the train behind him again. Easy to say now...

Or just only bring soft tyres, they'd not last more than 1/3 of the race I think?
Or maybe one joker lap every 15 laps where you have to go through the pit lane.

he would have been put back into traffic and then been stuck there.

First corner - could they allow cars to cut that corner if they have "overtake mode" active that lap? Would be an easy overtake. Just need to be mindful of anyone coming out of the pits.
Sure, its not a "real" pass, but at least it would stop faster cars being stuck for the entire race.
