I think, on cost, if you wear decent stuff for work and ‘play’ then can take two options. More for less per item, or fewer at higher cost.I like the story ,the heritage etc . I knew nothing of them . The first I saw probably 15 to 20 years ago was match lads wearing sweatshirts and coats and the awful arm patch . I didn't think snide because I didn't think they looked expensive just a bit meh like zavetti and stuff now. So when I realised it was top money premium stuff being copied I just thought that's a lot of money to look cheap.
Bit like watches to me . I like the history and stories but think a flash watch is purely to express wealth and doesn't look good on .

Lost me on the first bit but I get you on brands . I try to get good stuff at the right money . I also mix expensive and cheap . I find items which have to function as well as look good ,coats , are a lottery regards what you get for the moneyI think, on cost, if you wear decent stuff for work and ‘play’ then can take two options. Jeans, as an example. I buy Edwin (always in the sale and one distributor or another always seems to have a sale on) because they fit well, wear well and last. £140 for a pair that will last years is money well spent to me. Only things I pay real premium for is shoes. My old Nan drilled into me, “beds and shoes son. Buy the best you can afford. Spent most of your time in one or the other”.

That said I haven’t bought anything SI whilst in my 50’s. Might have been gifted polo shirts or the odd over shirt though.

No SI was common a while back. Quite a few places adopted it. Recall it was a thing in Manchester. What made it dafter was the door staff were telling folk to remove badge and then allowing entry. What’s the point in that?Had a couple Stone Island jumpers in my 20s but haven’t worn for years. They generally are decent quality & I believe SI are leaders in unique dye colours etc. However, just can’t get away from the ‘looking for a scrap’ subtext when you see the label on the arm now. Was at one away a few years ago (can’t remember where) & a sign on the pub door said ‘No Stone Island’ which is quite something.
Tried the M&S jeans, not that long back. Quality seemed good. Fit wasn’t great for me.I swore by Edwin selvedge for years especially the rainbow selvedge ones, would always stock up in the sales so had a new pair awaiting the death of an older pair…..then I discovered M&S Japanese selvedge, they were about £40 at the time and brilliant for the money.
They’ve since changed the fit a bit, and they are £60 but still worth a punt.
Bag of sand on a jacket and Marksies jeans![]()
I thought the whole Selvedge ethos is buy once and wear forever? Taking the high initial purchase argument away How many pair did you need ?I swore by Edwin selvedge for years especially the rainbow selvedge ones, would always stock up in the sales

Latest t shirts have been tk maxx . Good quality smaller brands Folk , larsson and London small makers
This fella's Stone Island wearing was studied by university students. Can't remember the exact wording but it was something along the lines of 'Old blokes who still wear Stone Island.'Love it me, always have and reckon I always will to some degree. Been a constant in my wardrobe for almost 40 years now.
Aye it’s absolutely everywhere, and faked heavily but I can still appreciate the good stuff that’s out there…..and anyone dismissing the entire brand because of the badge frankly ain’t got a clue, and I’d love to see what they gan out in.
To be fair, I did flog most of my stuff a few years back, as being an older gentleman, I found myself leaning more towards other brands, but kept about a dozen of my favourite and rarer bits which I’ll still wear.
Away with graft the morra and will be using me trusty SI holdall for carry on, reflective panel and badge on the front. Never get pulled at bag search, and no one is ever sat in my seat….coincidence? I think not!
And as always, PM if you want knocking out.

I got a Ripstop down jacket in January. Brilliant for walking the dog in the freezing weather. £250 from £595.

I actually found a pair a while back that I'd bought in a sale, knowing that I'd use them in the future. Totally forgot I had them. They've been my go to brand for years but have branched out with a pair of Naked and Famous that I like.I think, on cost, if you wear decent stuff for work and ‘play’ then can take two options. We all love the look and gear from our heyday but blokes wearing a look like 40 years didn't happen isn't a great idea . There's shops doing all the terrace look and their old owners doing the vlogs in the gear is pretty naff .This fella's Stone Island wearing was studied by university students.
