54 years in - first match Villa (h) , November 4, 1972 … Billy Hughes scored in the first minute.

Definitely mate. I’ve made mates with people I wouldn’t have even known if not for the match and became close to my dad’s mates who I otherwise would have only known to say hello to if not for the matches. It’s all so much more than the 90 minutes. Plus, no drink, drug or whatever in the world can replicate the feelings experienced when Ballard’s goal went in vs Coventry, Watson at Wembley, Meyenda against West Ham, the German plank against them up the road, the full day a fortnight ago against Chelsea.
 
December 13th, 1958, losing to Cardiff. Using maths or magic, or something, I make it about a hundred years, since I was 11, but I switched to the Roker End a few years later, and we've done better ever since. Love you old guys!😝

My dad won the "golden goal" prize that day...he was a guest of Vaux!

1st reserve game October 65.

1st first team game April 68 against Wolves. 2-2 draw.

Never thought I'd see us qualify for Europe through our league position.

Only 6 games to win the cup so thought we had an outside chance if doing that

We got beat of course but I was well and truly hooked by the Roker Roar.
So to answer the question... 67 seasons, and I can't remember one better than this.

I wrote an account of this day in ALS137. Statcat tells me it was the debut game for Cec Irwin, Len Ashurst and Jimmy McNab.

I remember that game it was Ashurst Irwin and mcnabs first game . I’ve been supporting Sunderland since 1955 hence my name.

Around 65 ish for me. Can’t really remember when it started, but they were my Dad’s team and I just followed, as do my lads now follow me. 🤷
