Years following the lads

73 years. From standing in the Fulwell end when we were still a top 6 team with a full team of internationals including Shack, Trevor Ford, Willie Watson etc. Seeing the first flood-lit games and Moscow Dynamo in the pouring rain. The disaster of the 1957 relegation, the yo-yo years including Peter Reids team. The 73 cup win, Then more yo-yo years till 8 years ago when disaster struck. Followed by the miracle of the last year which I never dreamed could happen. Favourite players - Shack, Stan Anderson, Charlie Hurley, Kevin Phillips, Niall Quinn and now Granit Xhaka. I'd like to see a trophy win next season.
Respect mate...a great bank of memories. I can remember Shack playing in a testimonial at Roker and doing impossible things and I think I saw him playing in the reserves once against Shields at Simonside Hall.
Then it was on to Monty, Irwin, Ashurst, Anderson, Hurley, McNab et al. For all it was 2nd division they were exciting times......missing out on promotion twice on the last day, FA cup matches etc.

Believe me the posters posting these years can’t believe it either…
True...we have to keep on believing.

What are we all upto years wise following the lads? I do appreciate that some may have just joined the journey and that is cool. We are all chosen at different times of our lives...

Was just wondering

42 years for me, and just to add, I never thought I would ever see Europe. I thought the Reid years were great, this is something different
43 for me having been introduced to the roller coaster by me fatha during the 1973 Cup run. Ironically, I remember queuing for cup tickets at the ticket office almost as well as the football.

67 years, relegation in 57 to the 73 cup run, Reid and Keane promotions will live in my memory as will this climb from L1 to Europe.

60 years plus for me, obviously not continuous, my dad took me as a nipper early sixties, started going on my own mid to late sixties, Roberts Tours from Wheatley Hill.

Sept 68. Almost 58 years. Man City at home. Dad was a Newcastle fan ( we would later do NuFc one week and the Lads the next).
I was 8 years old. We lost 4-0. Hooked.
This season has been amazing. Living in Germany and forever trying to raise our profile to get Granit Xhaka here then do so well has been wonderful. Kids at school discuss our games.
Loved the Ready years but this is also great but for different reasons.
If ever something summarised SAFC .
