World Cup

Cheers.
There's nothing in there suggesting it's anything to do with social media content.

I googled earlier and Ai suggested it might be because of certain fans having criminal records or football banning orders.
The confusing thing to me is that they were initially approved then had their status changed. As one lad said, he had an ESTA previously and nothing has changed since then at his end of things.

Yeah, that's odd.

Let's face it, there are always unfortunately going to be the odd mistake regarding visas or ESTAS and with the political climate right now certain media organisations will be praying for mistakes so they can highlight their hatred of Trump's America.

I will bet my bottom dollar that these Scottish fans in the news will be at Scotland's first game in a couple of weeks...... unless their applications have been denied because of criminal reasons.

Honestly not the case for me. That one was peak bullshit.
This one is still substantial bullshit, but that's par for the course these days.
Spread across 3x countries, one of which is in a middle of a war and hostile to the other countries, prices for tickets through the roof, silly kick-off times and adverts galore if you're watching it on the telly... No thanks.

FIFA have managed to kill my appetite for anything international related. I'm glad they'll enjoy the money though.

You need a visa or ESTA to enter the country, regardless of whether you are going to watch a match or not. Filling in an ESTA form is easy, takes about 10 minutes.
If you're from the UK it's straightforward, yes. Can't imagine it's the same for everyone...

In fact, my wife had to bypass US and opt for connecting flights in Colombia to get back to Peru.

Not excited at all. IMO it has been devalued by having 48 teams participating at this stage.

Obviously get more interesting at 1/4 final stage.

I want Engerland to win it but wont lose any sleep if they dont.

I will not go into hysterics even if they win

They'll have ticked the box asking about a criminal record even though it was for pissing up against a lamp post 20 yrs ago.

Totally makes zero sense having a German leading the charge. On the international stage it's meant to be our best against their best. Also, it'll be interesting if England played Germany in the final. It's just wrong on so many levels.

So, as things stand, the US Ambassador is patting himself on the back for granting visas for the Iranian team. What he doesn't mention, at all, is that they have NOT granted visas for the management and other back room staff. The Ambassador also doesn't mention that the Iran team have had their base moved because they have to travel into USA on matchdays from Mexico and back out each night.

The comments from yanks on X about this are abhorrent. I just hope nobody physically attacks Iran's team.

Infantino is a disgrace.

Just boycott. Visas needed to watch a football match FFS.

ESTA isn't a visa. It's a pre-travel authorisation under the Visa Waiver Program

No different to countries having a pre-flight registration form including...errr.. the UK which has an ETA.

Read my other post. My wife had to pick a connecting flight via Colombia as opposed to the cheaper route in US to get back to Peru because of the messy visa situation over there. She literally couldn't even transit. Mental.

Not to mention the fear that those within the country are currently experiencing of being potentially exported for no reason. It's like treading on eggshells and I for one wish the world cup was held in a country that isn't currently so unpredictable right now.

I fully sympathise but US immigration has always been strict even for connecting flights since unlike most other civilised countries you need to officially enter the country before connecting.

It was actually worse before the ESTA came in when you were more likely to be denied at the immigration booth. Now at least you can do the formalities in advance.

I don't think I'd want to go to this World Cup even if I got a free ticket, flight and accommodation.

Can’t wait for all you lot to be banging on about it coming home only to get pumped out.
You lot will be coming home before any of us start saying that mate ;)

As for the OP, I’m not that bothered about it. I’ll watch the England games and the others not at silly times over here but won’t be staying up or getting up to watch them.

Your last paragraph sums up the situation. For me they shouldn't be hosting. But money talks, BS walks.
