I was there the day Gary knocked three passed that lot up the road, it's still one of my greatest memories following the lads...Would have been 69

Lump in my throat reading that, what a big softie I amPosted about this before but me and my dad were unusually in hospitality for a home game against Burnley around 2004 in the Championship, rather than our regular seats, and we bumped into him on that red carpet staircase in the West Stand. It’s the only time I recall seeing my dad star struck. He stopped him and thanked him for that day and told him he was one of the many in the Leazes End and Gary was almost embarrassed at the hero like adulation but obviously very humble and grateful at the same time. Seemed a great fella. Loved his commentary with Simon Crabtree those years as well.
