Lancashire Points Deduction?

I ask the question, because I’ve seen no reporting of this in the usual places, but have seen this response from Lancashire regarding their pitch for their home defeat to Middlesex.

We were told substandard pitches would result in the offending county losing all points from the game in question, will that occur here?

I think that would be stupid. I find the stick Somerset have got over the years is bad too, I'd rather a bowlers game than a batsmans game in cricket.

You want a contest but a batting feast is always worse than a bowlers feast.

As they say in the article if 90% of games have been draws then how is a result pitch below average.

Sounds like all them draws were below average. Sets a shite precedent especially after Lancs lost the game.

There was a county game a season or two ago which was abandoned due to a dangerous pitch.

Can't remember what the punishment for that was though.

Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire.

The hosts got 0 points, Northants got 11 (3 bowling bonus and 8 draw points).
Wonder if the MCC will face sanctions for the substandard pitch at Lord’s?

14 wickets in about 49 overs so far 🤷‍♂️

As far as I know, not only do Lancs lose their points from the Middlesex game, but because they only garnered 3, the ECB have the ability to dock up to 8 points more. I imagine that this would finish off any Lancs hope of promotion for another season, if their appeal is unsuccessful

201-16 on day one at Lords. There won't be any repercussions. Ironically, things seem to have settled down there on day 2, just as they did in the Lancs v Middlesex game

Would rather see a game like that than a 600 plays 600 on an absolute road. If anything, they need to start rating them pitches as below standard
I agree with that. BUT we still need to determine that a good pitch has to fall somewhere in the middle. A good red ball pitch should just about produce a result between evenly matched teams at the end of the four days, but only if one of them is prepared to seize the initiative. Pitches that won’t produce a result in six days are substandard. Pitches that will produce a result in two and a half without any tactical thought because 40 wickets are bound to fall are substandard.

The possibility of the draw is what sets red ball apart and makes it so subtle. There’s plenty of “both sides bat and see who gets the most runs and that’s all you have to think about” cricket already. Red ball should require a bit more. The guts to press home an advantage when you have one, and to dig in when you don’t. That needs a pitch that leaves the draw on the table as a possibility, but doesn’t present it as a certainty.

So, this pitch was substandard. But I’m happy for it to be marked down only if pitches that err too far the other way are too.
