73 cup winners,then and now

I just googled him and he was Billy Hughes' brother and played once for us before being injured and never playing again.

I was at his one and only game, late January 1973 against Millwall.
He did his knee in and that was that. Never played football again.
He was indeed the brother of Billy Hughes.

I was surprised as I naively thought all Sunderland fans would recognise all the names of the team to win our last trophy, as I recognise all the team names from the 1937 FA cup winning team even though that was 35 years before I was born.

Mind I had to google John Hughes. I don't remember his single appearance for us ☹️.

I was there … we bought a crock… the video is intended to be every player who appeared for us that season i assume.
There may be others without looking. Thinking John Latham in particular

Holy fcuk. I read the messages before I watched the video so I thought I was kind of prepared. I wasn't. It's rare that i have tears rolling down my cheeks but I just lost it when Ian Porterfield was sat there. So many childhood memories. If only I could shake my dads hand like that, he was a MLF but passed away in 69 before my first match. Brilliant post.

What's the modern generation coming to?🤣
