73 cup winners,then and now

Have you like?. I wasn't born to be fair.

That being said. I probably wouldn't have remembered John Hughes had he played for us in my lifetime either.

But John Hughes was fine?
I was surprised as I naively thought all Sunderland fans would recognise all the names of the team to win our last trophy, as I recognise all the team names from the 1937 FA cup winning team even though that was 35 years before I was born.

Mind I had to google John Hughes. I don't remember his single appearance for us ☹️.

He wasn't in the team though. So there's that. Neither were a few of the others.

I know the song about the first 11 and I remembered there was another lad, not sure I would have said Young without looking it up though.

I wonder if they did a daft AI video for a cup he actually won?
Was part of the Lisbon Lions that won European Cup in 67. First British team to do so. Makes you realize just how far Scottish football has fallen..not good for us either as we always had some top notch talent from north of the border, including of course the scoter of the winning goal and the lad who lifted the trophy in 73. (four of the team being Scots)
