UEFA multi club ownership, Sunderland, Monaco and Juan Sartori.

🍿 if Monaco get Marseille's Europa League position
Surely the fact that we qualify on merit would trump their qualifying by finishing below, but being less skint than a club that qualified on merit?
Nee pop corn required as we'd be areet. These are the tie-breaker steps below. 1st is nee good as we're both in same competition. 2nd is nee good as both finished 7th so it would go to the country co-efficient and England is top so higher than France.

It's rule 5.02 here

If two or more clubs fail to meet the criteria aimed at ensuring the integrity of the competition, only one of them may be admitted to a UEFA club competition, in accordance with the following criteria (applicable in descending order) with the exception of the scenarios set out in Paragraph 5.04 and Paragraph 5.05:

1. The club which qualifies on sporting merit for the most prestigious UEFA club competition (i.e., in descending order: UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Conference League);

2. the club which was ranked highest in its domestic championship;

3. the club whose association is ranked highest in the access list

The key is in the word "ownership". Sartori has no direct ownership of any percentage of Monaco.
Not that it matters anyway given we'd be ahead of Monaco, does none of rule 5.01 not apply to Sartori? I would have thought being Vice President would fall into this below?

To ensure the integrity of the UEFA club competitions (i.e. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League), the club must be able to prove that as at 1 March 2025 the below multi-club ownership criteria were met and the club must continue to comply with the below criteria from that date until the end of the competition season:

No club participating in a UEFA club competition may, either directly or indirectly:

hold or deal in the securities or shares of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition;

be a member of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition;

be involved in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition; or

have any power whatsoever in the management, administration and/or sporting performance of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition.

No we didn’t. We got in through the usual qualifying system.

Monaco may get in because a team who finished above them in the league, who have qualified through the usual qualifying system, not being allowed to participate due to financial malpractice.

Ours is in merit, theirs is back door.

Side door?
Well no as you know if a CL club wins the FA cup then it goes to the league.

Which would be a back door entry 😉

Nope, straight through the front door and there on merit 😎

Not quite.

The allocation of places in UEFA competitions looks like this:

5 places in the Champions League - allocated to teams finishing 1st to 5th in the Premier League
2 places in the Europa League - allocated to 6th in the Premier League and to the winners of the FA Cup
1 place in the Conference League - allocated to the winners of the League Cup

If the FA Cup is won by a team that qualifies for the Champions League, then that place goes to the next highest place teams in the league. If the League Cup is won similarly, the Conference League place goes to the next highest ranked team.

So Bournemouth were the team that qualified for the Europa League in accordance with the original criteria. We got in by something of a side door.
