Aleksic returns

Never found anything about this since but I always think about when we signed him, there was a couple people saying that they had a clause on promotion where his home town gets a decent wedge, hope it wasn't bullshit

Oh wow I hope so Kragujevac is class

Would you seriously want us to sign Sancho? I certainly wouldnt . His lack of urgency reminds me of that rt winger that Moyes signed , still playing in Spain I believe , I cannot remember his name but he was criminally bone idle.
Does my post say I think we should sign Sancho?
Not having a go, I just genuinely might have misunderstood you...but Sancho is pretty much the dictionary definition of what we don't do any more, surely? Failed at top clubs, on massive wages and with a suspect attitude.

You're surely not advocating signing him?

Also, as far as "not signing elite players" goes we got the lad who finished 16th in the Balon D'Or to be our captain, and Nordi should be nowhere near a newly promoted team either

I look forward to watching Yamal, Kane and M'Bappe next season if you think we are signing elite players. Xhaka and Mukiele are fantastic players but there were reasons we were able to sign them which was fantastic business by us. I'd love us to be able to sign a Champions League level front three but its just not happening. We'll be signing players with the potential to reach that level. Some may have the flair but not the work rate. Regis will pick work rate over flair.

I like the look of Aleksic but think the club may have progressed at a pace too quick for him

Le bris doesn’t mess around if he doesn’t think a player is good enough and not sure a decent showing for the u21s will change much in aleksic’s case, he doesn’t seem to rate him and I’m inclined to trust the manager

It's my one slight criticism of RLB. He does seem to make his mind up about a player and if he doesn't rate them it's game over for them.

Tbf he's probably right about most but someone like Aleksic is still relatively young has some talent and the time to improve. Too young to just be discarded imo.

From the outside it does look like attitude and work rate are massive for Regis. No problem with that but to reach that next level you might need a maverick game changer, a Cantona type who doesn't fit the template but gets you results, Can RLB handle a player of that ilk?

PS not saying Aleksic is the next Cantona
He'll have seen a lot more of him than we have tbf. Undoubtedly he's got a bit of talent and I would expect him to improve, but he's not going to get games here any time soon so he will need a good loan somewhere, not to some Eastern European backwater.

I tend to agree with Reggie though, he's just got too much ground to make up to have an impact here.

If he still has a few years left on his deal i'd be trying to get him a loan somewhere just to get him some games, then look to recoup some money next summer.

He might be suited to scottish football as i think looks quite technical but the pace of the english game didn't suit him

Or nobody would pay a fee for him,we have a huge pile of players who we will just have to keep loaning out until their contract runs out.

Its unlikely anyone would pay a fee / match his wages. He came here at 18 after a handful of games and an inclusion in the Serbian squad. Since then he's not done anything to progress here and for some reason we've not managed to find him a decent loan before now. IMO he'd have been better off in L1 with us subsidising his wages last season than the Poland loan. Playing regular games and adjusting to English football, as he might not get regular ones in the Championship.

Suppose he's in limbo really until he gets games at a decent level of his contract expires.

I'm surprised they've not just agreed to cancel his contract by mutual consent though. He won't be on much.
We paid a reputed 3m fee for him. I doubt it was actually that much but he was clearly very highly rated. A years loan makes sense far more than paying his full contract up to release him. That would still count towards out salary expenses for financial fair play rules.

Yes I wondered about that, but I dont understand this PSR business and how it works. One of the lads on here posted a list of players in his situation just a few days ago,who we have next to no chance of getting a fee for.So as I say I have no Idea how it would affect the club if we just paid them all up.Think it needs someone like Grumpy Old Man to explain because its a mess,I wonder if this might be why Speakman was moved on.

Perfect.

Let’s see how he does and good luck to the lad.

Great to see that we’re making a start on what will need to be a very busy summer. In the old days, everyone of the back room staff would have been on the lash at the moment and wouldn’t be back properly at graft until July….with the first few weeks being basically ‘being your games in’ days because of the World Cup.
