I think your expectations are similar to what ours were, I remember saying 17th would feel like a cup win straight after promotion. Obviously it changes as the season goes on. But you could have a good season with plenty highs and still get relegated, such is the quality in the league.
I expect us to have a better team next season than we do now, but to finish lower.

The only thing I'm expecting is our owner gives Lampard enough to have a sufficient squad. If not there's enough choices out there for him.
What he has said is we will do it the Coventry way. Is this slowly building our squad or keeping our record signing below 10m? To me it means not paying over the odds for anyone.
Hull, Ipswich and Manchester City going down would be nice.

The danger with that thinking is that if you multiply it with other small income streams with the attitude of well its only a small amount its not worth bothering with, you end up losing quite a bit. And £3m is the average wage of a PL player, so youre a players wages down

I see Lampard is fave for the Palace job after Iraola is being heavily backed to go to Liverpool.

Should they lose the case and be penalised, City will be quite likely to immediately appeal and seek for any points deduction etc to be postponed pending the appeal. An appeal (assuming the rulings are in favour of the PL) is likely to drag things on for another 12 months or more. Possibly in time for the conclusion of the 2026/27 season, but maybe not.

Your Coventry lot seem a lot more confident in the championship squad than many other teams that have come up. Your expectations from the posters here seem unrealistically high, rather than the other way.
Of course you could have a brilliant summer, I’m definitely not writing you off. However I’m constantly reading on here how many of your players are clearly strong enough. You could be in for a surprise just how much of a gap it is. I’m sure your management team will be more pragmatic.
Spurs, Forest, Leeds spent majority of season near the bottom yet you’ve likely only a few players (so far) that would come close to their starting 11s.
And this isn’t a dig, just genuinely surprised how confident you all seem

Fucked in this term means relegated, not fucked financially or as a club. Would you be happy to spend low (Low by comparison to championship fees) and buy players who are going to be there to help you back up after relegation? I'm trying to be realistic as we have been relegated twice with a record low points tally after promotion. Ipswich used this method of buying top championship players so if they fail they are good enough to get them back up. Jack Clarke etc. It's not a bad philosophy in theory as you keep building and getting the parachute payments .
You have made that big step of breaking the chain of getting ahead of the teams with that financial clout in the Championship and I'm not preaching because we seemed to have to the most insane transfer window in my life where most came off. The difference you will notice straight away is if you lose the ball it can take bloody ages to get it back. We are a counter attacking team philosophy wise under RLB and it has worked. There are no easy games . You think Brentford, Bournemouth , Brighton , You think thank god for that after man City away or something, and then you watch how these teams play and they are bloody quality.
We have just qualified for Europe and even we are worried in case it affects us next season to go down. That's the levels we have. You are talking such small margins and percentages. If you think your current squad will compete as it stands you are going to get dry bummed every week
The outcome whatever won't be done for next season.
Luton went down that route about the stadium and look at them now. It is a cut throat business at the top end. What's your thoughts if Franky goes to Palace ? Where does that leave you and who would you want in ?

Ultimately I want us to become a stable, financial clever club. I don't want to risk it again. Getting relegated with a strong squad going into a Championship season is fine for me.
Its not comparable to Luton really. They were punching well above their weight.
I don't think we are necessarily confident but there are plenty of players in our squad which deserve a chance. Half of them would have moved on to bigger clubs if we hadn't got promoted.
Our fans are too traumatised by the last 20+ years to want us to go mad with money. I'm glad the expectations are pretty low.

Fair play if that's what you want. You have the prem money now so if you are clever you will certainly be stable. Don't be fooled by thinking half of your team would be bought by prem teams. We beat you in the play offs, then Sheff UTD in the final. Selling championship players is harder than you think.
We still have loads on our books and the best we got was loan fees for them . No big transfer fees which I expected for certain players.
When you come up it’s more likely half your squad are sold back to the championship. I don’t think you can afford to have the sentiment to “give players a chance” although I agree it seems bloody awful to discard the players who got you there. But that’s the reality….i know little about Coventry or their workings as a club, but from the outside looking in they are making all the noises about keeping the squad you have and adding 4-5 signings with the overused (and overpriced) “premier League experience”. Having see Sunderland (and many others) go this route with disastrous effect, I think it’s bullshit, bandied around by ex PL footballers to boost their own egos (PL experience in only experience worth having) and creating a market for has been players for a last payday for a newly promoted club. I’m glad we did what we did, yes it was ruthless in some cases, but we knew who could step up and they’ve proved themselves to stay in the squad. Isador, Ballard, Hume and Luke O’Nein have all acquitted themselves well.
Admittedly I don’t particularly want you to stay up, and I wouldn’t be so crass as to say “you’ll go down with X points” or whatever because it totally depends who you buy. But listening to the sound bites from Lampard and King I don’t think you’ll invest enough and what you do will be on the dreaded “premier league experience” money go round players who are, in reality, past it.who knows you may surprise everyone and “do a Sunderland”

It depends on how you decide to approach it, I suppose. You can do it cheaply, pocket all the money and the parachute payments, and largely go with what you've got and add a few. Financially it's sound, but you'll go straight back down.
Realistically to stay up you'll need to sign 6 or 7 players who will immediately improve your starting 11, and probably improve your squad in general on top of that.
This season West Ham went down on 39 points. Leeds and Sunderland have come up and stayed up very well, Spurs and Forest both had terrible seasons but are better than where they finished. I don't see (at the moment) too many lame ducks like Wolves and West Ham for the promoted sides to target finishing above, although it's very early days and things change. Palace need a new manager and they had a poor league season - although won the Conference League, which gets Glasner off the hook there. If they replace him badly and lose Mateta etc, they might struggle (especially as they'll be in the Europa League, which is much tougher than the Conference League).

KLD was very shrewd (yes i know hindsight makes every positive outcome look like a genius decision)The manager and the hierarchy obviously looked at the data to glean what made newly promoted teams do better than others and come to the decision that it was athleticism and organisation and a stifling way of playing without the ball but aggressive and pacy with it! Now hats of to KLD and Gsolfi for recruiting decent players to fit our system as it obviously worked and lets see what they do in terms of the duel challenge next season. In truth Gisolfi deserves a lot of the credit and i hope he does not get poached anytime soon....If the the newly promoted sides dont look at what sunderland and leeds have done to survive well they will deserve to fail ...Peronally i dont think any of the promoted sides have the financial wiggle-room to do what we did. Also im not sure the egos at the helm will be pragmatic enough to adapt the style of play to what has worked for leeds and us but hay ho im hoping for their combined utter failure to ease the pressure on ourselves for what is going to be a very tough and challenging season ahead.Welcome to the Premier League.

We're not certainties to go back down. Lampard took us from 2 points out of the relegation zone in November to a playoff place. Then after his first pre season we played like a different side. We had a wobble mid season, but that was after a virus ripped through our squad, injuries to our main players and also having suspensions to our defence all at the same time. At one point we couldn't even fill the bench, yet we still had MVE being sick on the touchline but still having to play him.
Once we had players fit again we finished 11W 3D 1 L in the last 15 games. The only defeat was against......Southampton
We play a style that could well be OK in the Prem. We have several players that score goals from 25 to 30 yards quite frequently. We had 5 players on 10 league goals or more. We are at our best playing on the counter attack.
I trust Lampard to bring in who we need. 17th place would be sufficient
