Personally I don’t like them over buffed up, I prefer them in their more natural state, I dust them down every now and then and occasionally give them a rub with an oily rag.Get the Brasso out marra.
Next year after we win the Europa League they’ll mark the occasion with engraved ship’s bells.My Family worked in the Shipyards so feel a little left out......I suppose there is an SD14 Ship on our Old Badge...

I had plenty of mates who were miner (or Mechanics as they liked to tell me) but the only pit I got to go down was Snowden in Kent.
It was the deepest (over 3,000 feet) and hottest in Kent . I was like visiting Hell.
Although it closed in the 1980's and the winding gear has long gone I pass it from time to time and the coal yard and other buildings are still there are as I remember them form over 50 years ago.
In the North East when a pit was closed down it was completely "disappeared" within a few months. I think that Thatcher was afraid that the "natives" might try to re-open them.

Me grandads one from Ryhope pit engraved with his name is still at me mams. He died in 1965. I did think of bringing it to mine as it is left to me, but now I’m well into me 60s it’s going to my Nephew once me mam is no longer here as he shares the same name as me grandad. It seems only right to me. He will be told the significance of what it means and to look after it
