Europa league - impact on city

Us qualifying for the EL is a tremendous opportunity to put the club on the map and raise our profile across the world

Getting a bit tired on treads of people bringing politics into the fantastic season we have just witnessed

I’m not interested in people’s politics

Who ever is in charge of the city is elected to that position It’s called democracy

Live with it and get behind the team

Well said,

If I was from Europe heading to Sunderland I would be looking to stay on the seafront in Roker or Seaburn area.

Walk up Penshaw Monument and a day drip to Durham Cathedral.

There could even be a major show on at the Empire Theatre if the wife is tagging along.

But matchday in Sunderland city centre on the drink with thousands of supporters of both teams before walking across Keel Crossing Will be the highlight.

Not a single European supporter has set foot in Sunderland, yet many on here are already claiming they won't feel welcome and will have a shit time - absolutely pathetic and completely wrong.

The proof will be when all of these away fans leave and then go on to tell everyone Sunderland was the best.

That

New train station will make a fortune
I was working in Boro When the rugby world cup was on at Sid James Park. I met a big group of Kiwis who were staying there due to hotel availability. Fine when events are on an afternoon, but absolutely out of the question when the last train to Teesside after night matches leaves at about 22.00

The Europa games could present a real opportunity for Northern Rail, as well as alleviating pressure on Sunderland and Newcastle hotels by allowing away fans to book digs in Hartlepool, Seaton Carew & Teesside. However, there is absolutely zero chance of any forward planning from them. They can't even run four carriages (it's always two - massively overcrowded...) on normal matchdays. Last minute cancellations...no seats available for booking on longer trips...standing room cattle class only...They really are a shambolic disgrace of a train operator. Poor foreign visitors wouldn't have endured anything like it in their home countries.

Great point in last train timings. Of course it shouldn't take us getting into Europe for this to change.

Reform don’t want visitors man. Forrin feckers coming over here with their forrin ways! No chance. They don’t even want exiles returning and pointing out that there are alternatives to 1950s style living.
This is a local club for local people, we’ll have no shouting here. Tubbs!!! Ring Nigel!!

Ooh…now here’s an open minded view about the people on the continent and the towns and cities therein….🙄

You can roll your eyes all you want but i've done quite a bit of travelling throughout Europe and its a fact of life.

One of the best examples I can think of is Belfast, there wasnt even a functioning Government the last time I was there and everyone knows of its troubled past.

Yet I find it to be one of the most fascinating cities I have been to and the people are great.

Everywhere has issues and nearly everywhere I have been the local people are not keen on their Governments or politicians - maybe thats why I get on with them so well, some common ground there.

People will come to Sunderland and love the place i have no doubt.

Of course they will and hopefully they will enjoy the city and the area.

But you stated that “There's a good chance many of the visitors will come from towns and cities where their local politicians have been traditionally influenced by organised crime.”
THAT is quite the comment to make about a whole continent.

I agree about Belfast. Been there a number of times and love it. My family name comes from the Lough Neagh area and I have visited Antrim and Lurgan. Nice people.

I really dont see what the issue is with that comment maybe it is poorly worded but the point is people are down on Sunderland Council, saying visitors won't feel welcome and I disagree.

Many of them will have similar issues and worse wherever they come from. I would be saying the same if we had supporters travelling from elsewhere in the world its not just Europe.

Yeah I'm going to head back to Belfast in the future to see how much it has changed since the last time I was there. Great place.

My particular favourite false narrative is that visitors to Sunderland will be treated like illegal migrants, like there's no distinction between the two.
I've never seen any evidence that Reform want to keep tourists out. Where do people get this nonsense?
Reform are a bunch of Bigoted wankers tapping into the public fear of immigration ruining a Britain that never was for the most of us so they can just feck right off!!!!

As for the impact on Sunderland...All will be Welcome and hopefully promote our City as a place full of fantastic, friendly people open to all creeds, cultures and colours!!!

Ha'way the Lads.
