Europa league - impact on city

As a lifelong exile who gets to Lads games whenever I can.. I live between the Emirates and the old Highbury and every pub, restaurant, offie, sandwich shop or takeaway would fold without the recent European element of match day trade.... Amplify what footy related represents by 30%
Just makes you realise how prophetic developing the sheepfolds and building the bridge was

I might just make an old fashioned PDF map on one side with numbers in different colours and a key on the other side.

I really think that Google maps doesn't do justice to how nice our city is laid out.

A walk from Roker to sheepfolds along the river then over the new footbridge into keel square and the town is absolutely fantastic, the beach ,marina , riverside walk etc..

You can't pick that up from Google maps..

Sunderland council need to get on it and get the place made easy for visitors
Reform don’t want visitors man. Forrin feckers coming over here with their forrin ways! No chance. They don’t even want exiles returning and pointing out that there are alternatives to 1950s style living.

Can we stop boring on about politics, there’s a whole forum for that

There's a good chance many of the visitors will come from towns and cities where their local politicians have been traditionally influenced by organised crime.

As if any of them will give a shite about Sunderland Council and what flag will fly on City Hall.

Sunderland will be a great place for people to come and visit.

I totally agree SD....I doubt whether the Roker pie shop or even Maws would have translated for intercontinental visitors the way that Propa does. It's the smaller local businesses that I feel glad for... My local corner shop reckons he could retire soon on sales of Red Bull when Arsenal are at home in Europe

Sunlun Patriots offering forrun muck to locals never mind forruns
Eggs and chips all round
Yep and I guarantee you, Reform would have blocked it as woke nonsense and a waste of money.
Farage said the same before local elections
Vanity projects
Of course the local reporter failed to ask if the eye infirmary was a vanity project
Eyesight who needs that

In other areas what have reform done that in anyway is posting or forward looking
Farage would of been happy with the Vaux site left to go to rack and ruin

I’ve read some shite on here but that’s gold

How much will a EL campaign bring into the city coffers

Look north often rambled on about the economic impact of European football on Newcastle and of course the wider region and the good PR it develops

Seen nowt about same impact on Sunderland
Will nexus be planning metro maintenance on EL nights?

Will many of the teams we will play in the four home games bring 1000 to 3000 fans ??

The Roker Riviera can still be splendid during the winter months if the weather plays nice.

We need more hotels in the city centre and bring back the trams for connecting the centre to the sea front at Roker & Seaburn.

I'm sure visitors won't care less who runs the local council.

It certainly never enters my mind when travelling anywhere in Europe.

Most European countries have suspect politicians one way or another but 99% of people don't care when you get there. You visit these places and ordinary people are getting on with their lives it'll be no different when people come to Sunderland.

Let’s be honest though, the City have elected a truly horrible and utterly clueless party.

Will it impact opposition fans visiting? No. But I bet the simpletons in charge won’t be rolling out the red carpet either.

Let’s say we play Leverkusen. Had Labour, the Tories, Greens or the Lib Dem’s been in charge, I’m in no doubt they would have the German flag outside of city hall purely to welcome our visitors.

The reform bellends will probably be trying to stick cheap Chinese made flags up on bridge street.
Please not rangers

We don’t want either tbh. They are both the exact same

Good point re the flags of opposing teams
They’ll be revoking the twin city status soon too

My particular favourite false narrative is that visitors to Sunderland will be treated like illegal migrants, like there's no distinction between the two.
I've never seen any evidence that Reform want to keep tourists out. Where do people get this nonsense?
Potholes.

I am being honest and I think people painting a bad picture of Sunderland because of the change of council are out of order and it feeds into a negative narrative which is not needed.

Politics the world over is murky and never idealistic.

Ordinary people get on with life whoever is in charge and it will be the Ordinary people of Sunderland who will define what visitors think of the place, not the council.

Hold them to account by all means but this instant default position of everything is now bad is completely wrong and benefits no one.

Us qualifying for the EL is a tremendous opportunity to put the club on the map and raise our profile across the world

Getting a bit tired on treads of people bringing politics into the fantastic season we have just witnessed

I’m not interested in people’s politics

Who ever is in charge of the city is elected to that position It’s called democracy

Live with it and get behind the team
