Fourth favourites for relegation

I’ve made a few threads on the betting forum about matches this season where the away team is favourite to win a match at the SoL. Chelsea were favourites, which I thought was wrong. Bizarrely, Tottenham were. Think we were favourites about 3/4 times in 38 matches.

Happy for them to keep underestimating us.

Suppose it’s about not creating a huge liability for themselves right now. Assume we’ll go out & have a similar transfer window to the last one & it could come back to bite them badly. Even if we do sign decent players, I doubt they’ll assume we’ll be strong, unless they’re proper “statement signings”, which I’m guessing won’t be the case.
The bookies ain’t often wrong but fuck me they had a stinker with us last season. It felt a bit like the early years of mma I’d look at betting and think wow it’s like I’ve got inside information as early in mma bookies didn’t have a clue. I’m happy for them to keep underestimating us.

If Xhaka were to sustain a serious injury that kept him out most of season ( he is going to the toughest competition in world football in 2 weeks time ) I have no doubt 4 th favourites for the drop would be optimistic
We look awful without him
I’m sure there will be a signing or two that will make this less worrying for you.

No one had a clue, even Regis was shocked how well they gelled together.

Palace played 60 games, had managerial and player unrest with Mateta in January (also lost a top central defender), and were never in the relegation mix. They prioritised the conference league towards the end of the season when they knew they were safe.

Forest would have finished higher if they hadn’t had multiple managerial changes and these had a far bigger impact on their league position than playing in Europe imho.

Villa finished 4th and went all the way in Europe.

So, yes Europe probably will have an impact on our league position, but not to the extent the bookies are forecasting and non SAFC fans seem to be hoping.

Finish 4th bottom remains the primary target surely.....40 points as quick as poss. Everything else a bonus....but again, targeted bonus.

Should be ahead of Leeds and Forest in the bookies list, but other than that it's hard to argue with the rest IMO.

All very established PL clubs who will be difficult to finish ahead of.

Strange how one player can have so much influence in a team Villa went to Shit without Mginn. Tried google to see Sunderlands points return when Xhaka did not play could not find the Stat anyone know??

It's right imo, the extra games as we are would be a killer.

No-one knows what business we're doing this Summer and the bookies don't work on best case scenario for obvious reasons.

we get a 20 goals a season striker, and we're competing top 7 again
our football has evolved too in the last 6 games and will do further
We will be nowhere near the bottom 4

3 promoted teams all odds-on to go down.
Sunderland 2/1
Other scrappy teams like Leeds and Forest all about 6 or 7.
Early days, there won't have been much money placed as yet

Will we repeat league position again?, probably not as those euro games will take a toll when playing at least twice a week
Very much doubt we will be near the relegation fight either, probably helped by the three teams coming up look likely to go straight back down again, and I honestly can't see them blasting enough money to buy enough decent players to stay up

Vast majority of of pundits did too not just the bookies

Encouraging comments from Ghisolfi and RLB :

Ghizzo said for Europa we need 21 starters up from 16 we have now and he is on it .
RLB said we're not starting afresh in August, we are 38 EPL games further on in the project.

We won't be in the relegation battle next season. I do worry about who's playing when Xhaka is rested.
