Running Thread 2026

A few lads and lasses i know have gone up to do the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this weekend, anyone doing that one?
Our lass is doing the marathon, hee first one, so me and the bairn are in the support crew (which basically means trying to figure out the buses to get to Musselburgh)

Scot rail as awful as they are from Waverley to Musselburgh sure it was like £2 there but on the way home DO NOT try to get the train it’s a nightmare.

Just jumped on the service bus, was a queue but went down quick enough cos there was loads of buses on.

Our lass done and it (rightly) buzzing. Absolute disgrace of a run mind. Was a boiling hot day up there, and the run ran out of water at some stations - our lass didn't get any at the mile 15/16 mark, and she's since read that people behind her never got any at mile 11.

Similarly, there was huge stretches with no stewards or first aid staff.

Shambolic and incredibly dangerous organisation.

Really good session with the physio this morning, came out feeling a lot more positive about things.

Pretty much identified straight away that my ankle break from a few years ago has caused some instability and is making my knee come slightly inwards when running.

Apparently my glutes have been barely activating and the hamstrings have been taking more of the load. He loosened them up and my range of motion definitely improved.

He's got some stretches and strengthening exercises to do but he seemed canny confident on the issues being fixed fairly quick.

Just be doing some walking and hitting the elliptical just to keep cardio up but hopefully should be back to running in a few weeks 🤞

I’ve done Durham coastal twice . Good race .The view's are great . Not the flattest course like and it mostly trial so it is challenging , especially if it rains .
My fastest time by far on it was in 2023 when it absolutely pissed down the entire way & some of the becks at the bottoms of the deans were calf height. My main problem with it is the July heat.

Does anyone on here use the Garmin Forerunner??? I use the GarminVivoActive 3 at the moment but looking to upgrade and only really do running now so any recommendations
Did there really?
Yeah but it’s been a few years since I took notice and i think the GNR may even take a lot more notice of numbers being sold . A lot of people defer their numbers but i bet loads still look to sell and get some money back

Aye I'm training as if I'll get one. The charity places seem to be there still but the expected donations seem high.

Anyone ever had any bother with their Achilles?

Got through Sunderland 10k alright then did an easy run last Sunday for about 7km but it was hurting all the way round.

Done a tempo session Tuesday after it felt bit better. But gets progressively worse. Same Thurs.

I've eased off and trying to rest.

It's a pain in the arse as I was in a good groove.

Best to just rest it?

Aye I have currently but running through it whilst resistance band training the ankle/foot.

Lots of calf raises and work around that area to strengthen at the moment, side steps are meant to be canny too (think that’s what they’re called)

I've read that you shouldn't abandon the running altogether. Absolutely knacks the next day though.

I'll give some exercises a bash.
